“I don’t understand why Father did this,” she cried, her voice breaking, “Lorik has always done everything he’s been asked to do… he didn’t deserve this.” 

Narik sat beside her, his usually rigid posture softening as he awkwardly placed a hand on her shoulder. It was an attempt at comfort, though he seemed unsure of how to provide it. 

My heart was heavy as I turned toward the doctor standing near the ward door. “Can I see him?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper, 

The doctor hesitated. “The Alpha is awake,” he admitted, “but he’s not in a stable state of mind. He’s refusing visitors right now.”

“I’m his Luna,” I said firmly. “I need to be by his side.” 

The doctor gave me a sympathetic look but remained hesitant. “I’ll ask him,” he finally said, disappearing into the room to speak with Lorik. 

A few minutes passed, each one feeling longer than the last. When the doctor re–emerged, his expression was apologetic. “He doesn’t want you to see him in this state. He refused.”
