Chapter 185
I didn’t deny it. I couldn’t. Late at night, there was no place for lies or disguises. We stood there, exposed, our real emotions laid bare. I finally spoke, my voice steady. “Is it that surprising? Isn’t it normal that I’d want to leave you?
That I don’t want to be with you anymore?” I could see him stiffen at my words, but I pressed on. “You say I don’t love you. So, tell me, Lorik, what exactly, do you think I love about you?
Do you think I love the way you’ve treated me for the last three years? Do you think I love the fact that you never trusted me, or that you banished me from the pack when things got tough?”
Lorik stared at me, stunned. He had never heard me speak to him this way. For years, I had held everything inside, but now, under the weight of the truth, I had finally let it out. The silence that
followed my words was thick, stretching between us like a chasm.
The night seemed even quieter as Lorik stood with his back to the window. His eyes searched mine, as though he was trying to find a lie or something to hold on to, but he found nothing. Slowly, he
began to realize that I meant every word. I truly wanted to leave him. The realization settled over
him, and he laughed bitterly, the sound devoid of any real joy.
“I used to think that maybe, with a child, we could start over,” he said, his voice cracking slightly.
I shook my head. “A child doesn’t fix the problems between us, Lorik. You know that.”
His expression darkened, the coldness settling deeper into his features. He looked at me, his heart
clearly torn between letting me go and holding on. He seemed so conflicted, the strong Alpha that everyone feared now appeared fragile and uncertain. After a long pause, he sighed, his voice now
tired and heavy. “We’ll talk about this again when the baby is born.”
He lingered for a few more seconds, his eyes filled with pain. Then, without another word, he
turned, opened the door, and disappeared into the night. I stood there for a moment, frozen, as
listened to his footsteps fade into the hallway.
Lorik left Karnata that same night, heading back to the northern front, where the pack’s business
and the ongoing tensions with the rogue wolves awaited him. After that night, the distance between
us became unbearable
“We barely spoke to one another, the silence growing heavier with each passing day. It felt as though we had reached the point of no return. Our relationship, once filled with passion, had turned icy, and it seemed there was no thawing in sight.

Weeks passed, and news of the rogue counterattacks on the border reached me. The war had intensified, and Lorik was deeply entrenched in it. Yet, despite everything. Panther contacted me often, always asking about my health and the baby. I knew Lorik had sent him, though he didn’t
dare ask me directly.
As winter began to fade and spring slowly emerged, life in Karnata continued quietly. One morning. I sat at the dining table, the early sunlight streaming through the floor–to–ceiling glass windows, bathing the room in a soft glow. Outside, the trees had begun to regain their leaves, and the weather was beautiful. I sat with my breakfast and the morning paper in hand, but the peace was short–lived.
