(Celeste’s POV)

The ache in my arm pulsed like a reminder of Lucas’s claws digging into my scars. My wolf

flinched at the memory, shrinking further inside me.

But I didn’t have time to dwell. Elder Eleanor’s chambers weren’t far, yet the weight in my chest

made every step feel heavier.

Nina walked beside me, her silent protective presence steadying my weakened legs.

My hands trembled slightly, the faint lingering effects of yesterday’s wolfsbane exposure making every movement uncomfortable.

But I pushed forward, knowing Eleanor would be waiting.

When I reached her chambers, my nose was immediately filled with a familiar mix of bitter,

moon–blessed tea and herbs. The air carried the faint whine of her wolf, weak yet still vibrant

in its determination to hold on.

“Little wolf, come closer,” Eleanor said as soon as she saw me. Her voice, though faint, carried

her signature warmth, washing over me like a protective embrace. Despite the lines etched

into her face from pain and exhaustion, her golden eyes brightened. Her wolf, though visibly

struggling, surged to brush faintly against mine, an unspoken reassurance that she still

recognized me as hers.

I moved quickly to her bedside, ignoring the creak in my body as I knelt beside her. “How are

you feeling today?” I asked softly, my voice thick, though I tried to hide it.

Eleanor took a shaky sip of her tea, the pack healer Sarah guiding the cup to her lips. Her frail

hands trembled slightly before she managed to lower the cup. “Better now that you’re here,” she whispered, her lips curving into a weak smile.

Her words loosened a knot in my chest. I reached for her hand, careful not to press too hard against her fragile skin. “You shouldn’t say things like that,” I chided gently, though my voice. gave away the emotion I couldn’t hide. “You’re the only reason I’m still sane. You’ve done more for me than anyone else has.”

Eleanor’s eyes softened further. “And I’ll keep doing so for as long as this wolf of mine holds on,” she replied. Her wolf gave a small, reassuring nudge against mine, but the flicker of strain

I squeezed her hand lightly, mindful not to push her too much today. “Victoria told you?” I

asked finally, my voice dropping to a whisper. “About why I went to Regina’s territory?”

Eleanor’s sharp gaze caught mine, unwavering despite the glimmer of pain in her eyes. “She

told me enough,” she said, leaning her head back with a long exhale. “Enough for me to know

you’re being forced into something against your will.”

I flinched at her words, her wolf’s protective energy pressing against mine like a shield.

“And let me be clear,” Eleanor continued, her voice steady despite her weakening body. ”

Marcus Blackwood may be the Alpha King’s nephew, but not even he or Regina can force you

into a bond you don’t want. I may be weak, but I will fight for you, little wolf. Even if it costs me

the last of my strength.”

Her words hit harder than I expected, the weight of her unwavering support making my chest

tighten. My vision blurred with unshed tears as I clasped her hand more tightly in mine.

“Don’t,” I said softly, my voice breaking under the weight of the emotions I fought to contain.

Please don’t exert yourself, Elder. I’ll… I’ll do it. For you.”

Eleanor’s wolf whined softly, her golden eyes scrutinizing me. “I will not have you make this

decision out of guilt,” she said firmly. “If this is about my health-”

“It’s not about guilt,” I interrupted, though my voice wavered. “I’m tired of fighting for things

that are already broken.”

Her gaze grew sharper, her fingers curling weakly around mine like an anchor. “Celeste, look at me. Don’t give up like this. You’ve endured far worse. Your wolf may be scarred, but it’s

unbroken.”

The lump in my throat grew unbearable, but I forced myself to stay composed.

“I’m not giving up,” I said after a moment. “But everyone needs something to hold on to. And

for me, that’s you. So if doing this can give you any peace… then I’ll do it. It’s my choice.”

Those last words seemed to weaken her argument, but her wolf let out a distressed whimper

in protest.

With trembling hands, I leaned forward slightly, resting my forehead against hers carefully. Her frail body shook lightly, yet the faint energy of her wolf transferred to mine, like a final promise

to protect me.

“Three moons,” I whispered softly to her. “Three moons, and then things will change. I’ll make

In the days that followed, I poured myself into Eleanor’s care with single–minded focus. Her

wolf seemed to grow stronger in my presence, her labored breathing easing slightly with each

passing day.

determination. I noticed how she kept a close watch on Lucas, though he seemed to avoid me

entirely after our confrontation.
