chapter 52: That’s Enough
chapter 52: That’s Enough
(Celeste’s POV)
The paths leading to Silver Creek had become a maze, overcrowded with milling wolves. Each step through the chaotic energy made my wolf withdraw further.
Their mingling auras weren’t just overbearing–they were suffocating.
I kept my cloak wrapped tightly around me as Nina led the way. Pack wolves of all ranks filled the space–talking loudly, bartering, laughing, their voices a ceaseless hum of activity.
Ahead, the Silver Moon Market spread wide, its stalls gleaming under the moonlight. The intricate displays of moon–blessed crystals and healing poultices were dazzling, their soft
glows mesmerizing.
The crowd buzzed with life, but my focus remained on pushing forward.
“We have to pass through the market before reaching the tavern,” the beta accompanying us said. His small frame stiffened as another wolf cast an imposing glance his way. “The other
roads are too crowded.”
“Then let’s hurry,” I said, trying to keep my voice firm, though I could feel my silver burns sapping what little strength I had left.
Nina’s sharp eyes scanned the market. The rows of stalls, the bustling traders, the glowing
wares–all of it seemed alive, moving and shifting like a living entity.
Her gaze stopped abruptly at a vendor displaying healing crystals. She paused, her wolf drawn
to the stones that looked like softened dew drops glowing faintly.
“This won’t take long,” she said quickly, glancing back at me. “These might help with your
burns.”
I tried to protest, but she was already weaving her way toward the stall. Her protective nature
wouldn’t allow her to leave without trying. I sighed but stayed where I was, resisting the urge
to follow too closely.
The market grew louder around me. Wolves passed by in groups, brushing against me as my
cloak barely shielded me from their energy. Their closeness sent shivers crawling up my
spine.

chapter 52: That’s Enough
One particularly heavy surge of wolves disrupted the motion around me. Bodies jostled. I
stumbled as my footing slipped on the uneven ground. The world tilted slightly as I fought to
maintain balance. My burned shoulders screamed in protest at the sudden shift.
A strong, warm grasp steadied me just before I collapsed entirely.
The scent hit me instantly–a crisp familiarity I couldn’t ignore. It pulled at memories buried
deep, pricking at the guarded parts of my wolf.
“Careful, Little Moon.”
That voice.
I didn’t have to look to know who it belonged to. Yet when I raised my gaze, my heart clenched
when I saw him.
Alexander.
His ice–blue eyes locked onto mine like they could see right through me. His expression
softened for a brief moment, just long enough to stir something raw within me. His grip on my
arms was firm but not painful, grounding me in a way I hadn’t felt in years.
“Alexander,” I exhaled, the name slipping out before I could stop it.
His hold lingered for a moment longer, his powerful frame steady against the spinning chaos
around us. His white wolf’s energy pressed against mine lightly, almost as if it were trying to
reassure me.
“You shouldn’t be this careless,” he said quietly, his voice calm but tinged with concern. “You
could’ve fallen if no one had caught you.”
“I wasn’t being careless,” I snapped softly, though my tone lacked bite. “The crowd–it’s
overwhelming.”
He frowned. “You shouldn’t have been left alone.”
I stiffened at his remark, pulling myself upright and attempting to step back from his hold. “I wasn’t alone,” I replied sharply. “Nina is with me.”
“Nina left you to wander in this crowd,” he remarked, his ice–blue gaze flicking toward the
bustling wolves around us. His protective tone began to grate on my nerves.
“She’s not the problem,” I said curtly. “And I’m fine. Now, let go.”
Alexander’s gaze held mine for a moment longer, his grip loosening just as I attempted to tug my arms free. It wasn’t his touch that unnerved me–it was what it ignited. Something stirring

beneath years of pain and walls I had carefully built.
But before the tension could unravel into clarity, another energy crashed into me.
It wasn’t physical, but it felt like a blow.
“How shameless.”
The voice was sharp, cutting through the space around us like a blade. I turned just in time to
see Diana.
She stormed toward me, her wolf’s hostility radiating with every step. Like a tidal wave, her presence was impossible to ignore. The smugness on her face mirrored the poison in her
words.
“First you try to seduce Marcus for his royal protection,” she said with venom dripping off every word. Her sneer deepened as she stepped closer. “And now you throw yourself at my
brother? Is there anyone you won’t cling to?”
The crowd stiffened. Whispered murmurs rose around us as wolves began to take notice. Their judging eyes bore into me, their curiosity twisted with the joy of witnessing another
spectacle.
“Diana, back off,” Alexander said sharply. He shifted slightly to stand between us. I saw the
frustration flicker across his face. “Enough.”
“Enough?” Diana snorted, her wolf’s presence flaring in defiance. “Are you seriously defending her after what just happened? Everyone here knows what she’s doing, Alexander. It’s plain
enough to see.”
“I didn’t do anything,” I snapped, anger flaring in my chest.
Diana turned her piercing glare back to me, clearly unimpressed. “Didn’t you? Falling conveniently into my brother’s arms?” Her lips curled in a sneer. “Do you take us all for fools?”
“I have no interest in entertaining your delusions,” I said coldly, the sharpness in my tone
biting back against the humiliation bubbling under my skin.
Her wolf growled low in her throat. “You pretend to be dignified, but it’s all an act. It always
has been.”
I couldn’t afford to lose composure. Not here, not now.
Straightening my posture, I forced my hands to remain at my sides, my fingers curling tightly into the fabric of my cloak. I offered Alexander a formal pack greeting, dipping my head
slightly to maintain respect but not submission.
