Chapter 14 The apology 

Gemma slammed the door behind her. I felt some kind of relief. I had enough of her. After taking a deep breath, I turned to my wife. 

*Alice, get ready. We are leaving in an hour.” 

She only nodded, and she was about to say something, but apparently, she struggled, and probably, she changed her mind in a second, as she just left quietly. Honestly, I wanted to know what she wanted to tell me, but again, I told myself I should not care. 

I waited for her in the living room. She appeared shortly. She wore a nice, light blue dress with sandals and she let her long, natural brown hair down. I needed to force myself to take my eyes off of her. She looked gorgeous, 

I stood up. 

“Are you ready?” 

She nodded. 

I walked to the door, and she followed me. I’d have loved to hold her hand and help her get into my car,

told myself again, I shouldn’t do that. 

1 awaited her till she got in and fastened her seatbelt, then I drove to my parents‘ house. 

When we arrived, they greeted us friendly. It was obvious they liked Alice really much. We sat down in the garden with them and they all chatted happily. Alice was quiet, as usual, but somehow she was more weird than before. 

“Alice, how are you?” 

My mum turned to her, but Alice just lowered her head. 

“Mrs. Sullivan, I would like to apologise for the wedding dress.” 

Everyone looked at her. 

“So, this is the reason you are so quiet?” 

She lowered her head more. “I’m not a fool.” 

“Alice, you don’t have to worry about that. We all know y 

who ruined that.” 

Sloane added. Then Seth laughed out loud. 

“No one has to worry. Gideon has a lot of money. He is paying happily for the damages caused by his wh“re” 

I looked around to see that they were all looking at me. I rolled my eyes in disbelief. 

“Okay, I’ll pay for that. How much was it?““40.000 dollars.”

I nearly shouted at my mum. 

“What do you think, darling? My son got married. Did you seriously think that I would find the cheapest things, shaming the Sullivan name?““No, mum, not even for a second” 

I said that in a mocking tone, but my mum was like she didn’t notice that. 

“Alice, I’ll forgive you this time, but try to take care of the things you got. I chose every single thing for you with care, and let me mention they are really expensive” 

“Yes, Mrs. Sullivan.”

Chapter 14 The apology 

Alice said that quietly, and I could see that she felt more horrible. My mum had a satisfied look, then she turned back to us, continued chatting till my dad wanted to have a word with us. He turned to Alice. 

“Alice, would you like to see our new flowers by the pool? They arrived yesterday.” 

She nodded, like she understood my father wanted to talk to us privately, and she stood up. I could see some sadness on her face, but I avoided that. She walked out of the tent and she went to the pool. I was in an excellent position. Even if I listened to my dad, I could see her from there. 

“Gideon” 

My dad pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked at him. 

“Have you heard about Riccardo yet?” 

“No, he only sent me one message, but you know about that.” 

“Do you think he noticed Alice yet?” 

That question made my chest feel heavy. 

“Well, he should have noticed her. The news about our wedding spread quickly.” 

I moved my gaze as soon as I noticed I watched Alice, till I said that. 

“You should take her out sometimes if you want their attention on her. You could take her to different clubs in the city, or out for dinner.” 

“Yeah, just most of the time, I’m busy.” 

“Well, I understand Gemma needs attention too, but if you avoid Alice, she won’t get their attention.” 

I felt annoyed. I did not want to rush these things at all. 

“I’ll do something about that, but can we just finish this conversation, please?” 

*Well, I thought it was worth discussing I’m guessing you don’t want to keep her in your house for a long time, and Gemma is probably disappointed, 

“Don’t worry dad, Gemma is satisfied until Gideon lets her get free drinks in the club.” 

Seth added.I had a meaningful look at him, then I shouted to Alice. 

She looked at me, I motioned for her to come back. She walked back quickly. When she arrived, I didn’t know why I did that, but I patted the place next to me. She stayed motionless and sat down there. I could see she felt horrible around me, and I hated the fact that I hated to see that. 

We chatted about some meaningless things when my mum got a phone call. 

“Okay, everyone, so the dinner is ready. We may go inside now
