Chapter 78 The truth
Alice
I got back to my senses slowly. My headache was sharp. I opened my eyes to close them back quickly, as the brightness of the room hurt my them badly. The bed I laid on was comfy and warm. To feel this comfort made me feel nice till I recalled what happened to me. I turned around suddenly, and I quickly got out of bed, which caused me to fall on the floor, hitting myself. The pain made me cry out, but I desperately wanted to escape, didn’t matter where I was.
“Alice, calm down, please. Everything is okay. You are safe.” 1 tried to see with my eyes, slowly getting back to my vision. I rubbed my eyes, hoping that would help, and finally, when I could see clearly, I saw a familiar face.
“Sacha? What? Why?” I couldn’t believe my eyes.
She smiled at me kindly.
“Just lay back, Alice. You have gone through a lot, have rest. Everything will be fine. You are safe here. You don’t need to worry.”
She caressed my face after she helped me go back to bed. I looked at her, still trying to figure out why I was with her. I had hundreds of questions on my mind, but words just didn’t come out of my mouth.
“Are you hungry?” She asked, still so kindly.
I shook my head.
“Thirsty?”
1 shook my head again, which made her sigh.
“Alice, no one wants to harm you here. You are in the best place you could be.”
I only looked at her, still unable to speak. She sighed again.
“Okay, I think the best is if I let you speak to my husband.” She stood up and left the room. I looked around. My gaze wondered to the window. I thought I could e
descape through it. I was about to get up, to have a closer look just to know if I would survive of jumping down, when a deep, male voice made me turn in its direction suddenly.
“You are a smart and strong young lady, aren’t you?” After watching him for a few seconds, I realised he was the same man who was next to Carlo in Charles‘ flat.
He laughed and shook his head.
“Probably you heard my name already, but let me introduce myself. My name is Riccardo Andrea D’angeli. Usually, people mention me as the head of the Italian mafia.”
“What do you want to do to me?” I asked, with obvious fear in my voice.
He smiled and shook his head.
“Your mum never told you about me, wasn’t she?”
I shook my head, still in fear.
“Fiorella was born and grew up with us. She was my father’s most trusted guy’s daughter“:
1 frowned and shook my head.
“I can’t be the right person you are looking for. My mum’s name is Sharlotte Lessard.” I stuttered, but he shook his head, still with a smile.
“No dear. Your mum’s real name was Fiorella Bianchi. She changed her name when she left with Charles.”
That shocked me. I looked away, couldn’t believe what he said. My mum was a helpless, quiet woman, always in fear. She would never fit into the mafa

“Fiorella’s parents didn’t like the fact she would become a mother at that really young age. So they wanted to raise you themselves, and obviously 09:3 punish Fiorella for not behaving as they expected. She was always in fear. She never accepted the life that we lived. And Charles used her weakness and betrayed the family. He made Fiorella believe she and you will have a better life next to him. He made her believe you would grow up i
in a normal, happy life if she would leave us with you. That was before you were born.”
“I have nothing to do with this. Gideon is my husband indeed, but please don’t hurt me.” I cried.
“Gideon made a huge mistake causing that accident, harming Alexandra. I was mad at him, and I indeed wanted to take that person who is important him, giving him the same feeling that I felt when I saw Alexandra in the hospital.”
He took a deep breath again and exhaled slowly.
“I searched for information about you and when I saw you on the videos, and I found a lot of pictures of you on the internet, I recognised you. Since them
I have madly wanted to have here.”
“Please… I would do everything.” It was hard to talk, because I sobbed. He came closer and sat down on the bed. He caressed my face with his hand, then tried to wipe my tears with his thumb.
“Don’t hurt me, please.” I begged, lowering my head.
“Dear child. How could I hurt my daughter?”
I looked at him suddenly, and I stopped sobbing from the shock. I just watched him, then in a second I got back to my senses, and I shook my head while pushing his hand away.
