“Attorney Smith always has that cold, distant look, like she’s unapproachable. She’s the same with everyone. I think she seemed pretty normal today,” someone remarked. 

“Technically, Attorney Smith was supposed to be promoted to team leader, but now someone from outside got the position. I get why she’s upset!” 

“Am I the only one who noticed Mr. Jasper staring at her face for over a minute? Maybe he’s thinking of, you know, giving her some ‘special treatment?“” 

“Oh please, Attorney Smith wouldn’t even wait around for that. She’s probably already plotting her way into his bed! Let’s not forget, she’s had plenty of experience over the past four years. She’s been up to that sort of thing a lot!” 

Mia let out a cold laugh and spoke up slowly, “I thought Attorney Baker’s lesson yesterday was enough to keep everyone quiet. Guess I was wrong. It seems that you’re all still fascinated by my private life! How about one of you runs out and grabs some peanuts, and we can all sit down for a gossip session?” 

A beautiful woman was often dismissed as just a pretty face, decorative but without substance. And if she happened to be both beautiful and skilled, people assumed she was manipulative, using her looks and connections to climb the ladder. 

Since she had joined HH Law Firm four years ago, her abilities had been under constant doubt. She had worked relentlessly to reach her current position, yet no one acknowledged her hard work. They only assumed she had gotten there by cozying up to men. 

After yesterday’s confrontation in the break room, Zoe avoided her altogether, and Jane looked at her with a touch of guilt. But apparently, some people were still undeterred. 

“Attorney Smith, we didn’t mean anything by it! Don’t be mad. We’ll leave now!” 

In seconds, the group dispersed entirely. 

This little scene didn’t go unnoticed by Tom, who saw an opportunity. Back in his office, he immediately called Zoe. 

Zoe quickly entered the office, shutting the door before flinging herself into Tom’s arms. “Honey, I missed you! You didn’t even look at me this morning!” 

Tom pushed her away, his tone cold. “Calm down. Don’t be so reckless. Just because the new boss didn’t bring it up today doesn’t mean we’re in the clear. Stay alert!” 

Zoe pouted, a flicker of malice flashing in her eyes. That wretched Mia! She wouldn’t let her off easily. 

When she stepped back, Tom gestured for her to come closer. “Come here,” he whispered, “go to our future boss’s wife’s office and say this…” 

Zoe leaned in, listening to his plan with a sly grin. “Got I’ll go talk to her right now!” she said, her smile turning wicked as she rushed off to find Jenna. 

Meanwhile, Mia was organizing case files when Jenna’s call lit up her phone. She rolled her eyes and declined it.
