Chapter 0068
Hearing his words, Mia couldn’t hold back her tears any longer.
She had tried to stay strong, but now they spilled over. “I told you I had an emergency, but she still forced me to stay. My grandmother is in the ER fighting for her life, yet you’re asking me to have a ‘professional discussion‘ with Jenna! If you’re so worried about her feelings, maybe you should just keep her out of the office. It’s not like you can’t afford to take care of her!”
Hunter’s face froze. He hadn’t realized Mia’s grandmother was in critical condition.
“Mr. Jasper, can I go now? I’m afraid if I wait any longer, I won’t even get to see her one last time!” Mia wiped her tears, pushed him aside, and stormed out.
Jenna was hesitating by the door, deciding whether to knock, when Mia suddenly threw it open, startling her. By the time Jenna recovered, Mia was already down the hall. She was about to call after her, but Hunter stepped out.
Seeing him, Jenna rushed over and softly said, “Hunter…”
Hunter’s expression was cold as he looked past her. “From now on, Mia doesn’t need your permission to leave the office.” With that, he turned and walked away.
Jenna watched him go, her jaw clenched in frustration. A moment ago, he had been furious when he had pulled Mia into the office! What had Mia said to change his attitude so quickly?
Mia had barely driven out of the parking lot when Hunter’s car blocked her path. She honked, but the car didn’t move.
Taking a deep breath, she opened her door, walked over, and knocked on his window.
The window rolled down, and Sam greeted her respectfully, “Ma’am.”
“Unlock the door,” she said, then opened it herself and looked up at Hunter, who was busy working on his laptop. With a steady voice, she asked, “Mr. Jasper, what exactly do I need to do for you to let me go?”
Hunter’s fingers continued typing, his gaze fixed on the screen. Without looking at her, he ordered, “Get in the car.”
Mia gritted her teeth. “Hunter, I’m in a hurry. Can we talk about this tonight?”
She had clearly told him her grandmother was in critical condition, yet he was still blocking her way. In his mind, any slight against Jenna had to be immediately avenged, regardless of her own emergency. He truly was ruthless!
“I’ll say it one more time. Get in the car!” Hunter closed his laptop, pinching the bridge of his nose, his tone tinged with irritation.
Sam watched, silently sighing. Mr. Jasper clearly intended to drive Mia to the hospital but couldn’t help putting on a cold, unfeeling front. Sam worried, that, at this rate, she might just up and leave him one day.
Reluctantly, Sam turned to Mia and said, “Ma’am, please get in. I’ll drive you to the hospital, and I can get us there quickly.“.
Mia gritted her teeth. “Fine, let me grab my bag.”
