An Unbreakable Addiction novel Chapter 81

Summer glanced over at Hunter, feeling a surge of irritation. She had clearly seen the flicker of admiration in Mia’s eyes just now.

Mia liked those earrings but hesitated to accept them because Hunter was around. Hunter could really be such a jerk sometimes!

After the small interruption, the three of them began eating, though the atmosphere felt tense. Mia picked at her food, lost in thought, until a sudden wave of nausea hit her.

She quickly put down her utensils, covering her mouth with one hand. “I’ll be right back,” she mumbled, rushing to the restroom.

Zac watched her retreat, a hint of sadness crossing his usually calm face.

Summer, not wanting to draw attention, stole a glance at Mia’s disappearing figure. She knew perfectly well why Mia felt sick. Part of her wanted to check on Mia, but she didn’t want Zac picking up on anything suspicious.

After some thought, she decided to stay put. Mia had been adamant about keeping her pregnancy a secret, wary of it being used against her.

Seeing Mia head to the restroom, Hunter put down his utensils and got up. “I’ll be right back,” he said coolly.

Jenna smiled at him sweetly. “Go ahead.”

Mia barely made it to the restroom before throwing up, the nausea more intense than ever. She had never felt this sick since discovering she was pregnant. After a long, painful moment, she finally rinsed her mouth, took a deep breath, and composed herself to head back out.

Just as she reached the door, though, she ran into Hunter, smoking by the entrance. Mia steadied herself and instinctively quickened her pace to avoid him. Just as she passed Hunter, he grabbed her wrist.

Mia felt a wave of frustration. “Are you done, Hunter? I told you, there’s nothing between me and Zac. But you just can’t let it go, can you? If you're so keen on playing the cheated spouse, maybe I should throw in a couple more scandals to make it real.”

Hunter’s irritation flared at her retort, and without warning, he pulled her into his arms, pressing his lips against hers. For reasons he couldn’t quite explain, it was as if he was searching for something in her, something that would settle his own doubts.

Shocked, Mia’s eyes widened, and she retaliated, biting his lip hard. Hunter released her with a hiss of pain, and she took the chance to push him away and escape.

Hunter wiped the blood from his lip, eyes narrowed in frustration. Mia was slipping further out of his control, and he didn’t like it one bit.

Back at the table, Summer noticed the blood on Mia’s lips, looking at her with concern. “Mia, what happened to your mouth?”
