When Bai Meiyue saw that her mother had calmed down, she heaved a sigh of relief. Then she said to her mother, "I brought back salmon and some more seafood with me this time. Mom, can you make some grilled salmon for me tonight? I also want to drink the fish ball soup that you used to make when I was young —it has been so many years since I drank it."
Though Bai Meiyue said those words because she wanted to calm her mother down, she was not lying. She was indeed missing the fishball soup that her mother used to make when she was a child. Back in her past life, she was fooled by the chocolates and snacks brought by Bai Qingshi and followed him.
She thought that those snacks were more delicious than the food cooked by her mother but when Bai Meiyue grew up, she realised that the real warmth and taste was within the dishes cooked by her mother.
When Mother Bai heard that Bai Meiyue missed the fish ball soup that she cooked, she immediately smiled. But on the surface, she glared at Bai Meiyue and said to her, "You girl, you really know how to say words that would please me."
Though she said those harsh words, she was smiling from one ear to the other. But because her mother wanted to pretend that she was still angry, Mother Bai tried her best to suppress the curl of her lips and ignore Bai Meiyue.
Bai Meiyue heaved a sigh of relief. After handling her mother, she went back to her room where she started preparing the things that she would need to go to the southern district when —
Ring. ring. Ring.
The ringing of the doorbell stopped her movements; she turned to look at the door and walked over.
When Bai Meiyue opened the door and saw Lei Qian, she arched her brow and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Lei Qian leaned forward. With his arm resting on the doorframe, he looked down at her and remarked, "I heard that you are going on a hunt with Shen Zhen?"
Hearing his question, she turned to look at Shen Zhen, who ducked her head and scurried inside the penthouse. Seeing the actions of the woman, Bai Meiyue was speechless. She knew that Shen Zhen was worried about her but she felt slightly helpless when she saw her meddling in her matters.
While she was lost in her thoughts, Lei Qian reached out and snapped his fingers right in front of her face. He raised his brows and questioned, "What? What are you thinking?"
"What is it with you? Even if I was going on a hunt, what does that have to do with you?" Bai Meiyue asked with a raise of her brow.
Her voice was cold and she was looking at him indifferently but Lei Qian still smiled at her while ignoring the subtle 'get lost' vibes that were oozing out of her skin.
"I will be going with you," Lei Qian stated calmly, showing no signs of anger.
"There is no need—"
Lei Qian pushed his face right into Bai Meiyue's face, making the woman pull away from him. She eyed him warily and then heard him say, "But I want to go with you. If you leave and I don't go with you, then I am worried that I will die because of distress."
"Distress over what?" Bai Meiyue questioned.
