"Oh, mom, back then, it was a piece of unconfirmed news. But now, I can assure you that I have found the partner." Shirley stared at Joy with a complacent look and continued,"Since someone has agreed to support me in the form of partnership, you will favor me as CEO of the company. Am I right?"
"Of course, I will. The old shareholders will surely agree to elect you as CEO of our company too, since you have put your cards on the table and gained support from such a powerful figure. Shirley, I disagreed with your proposal for acting as CEO before because it was really infeasible at that time. It really is not like showingpartiality towards Winner. After all, Winner is the sole male heir of the Wen Family. In addition to that, he is the only legitimate heir of our family."
Embarrassment was evident on Joy's face, but she tried her best to explain it.
"Mom, I know and I can understand." Knowing that her mother would support her now, Shirley felt happiness wash over her. Together, they started to walk ahead.
Back in Jean's ward, Jean and Moore were having a conversation. "At times, we really can't force ourselves to do something against our wills," said Jean while she smirked at Moore.
Deep down, she suspected that this marriage would bring her nothing but humiliation. She wanted to get out of it as soon as possible.
"Jean, I don't think there is any point in saying anything more." Moore sighed and continued,"But you need to know I will always be there to support you, no matter what decision you take."
Hearing this, Jean smiled feeling thankful and spoke. "I know, Moore, and I am very thankful to you." Life was hard for Jean but knowing such a friend existing gave her a relief.
She knew Moore was the type of guy to support her through thick and thin. This knowledge eased off her worries.
In front of him, she could talk about everything without feeling restricted. He would never judge her, which was the best part of their relationship.
Moore spoke first to break the awkward silence brought by this sentimental talk.
"It is almost time for supper. Let's go!" Jean looked up and smiled.
Seeing her smile, Moore swore inside his head that he would always help her fight the obstacles in her life.
As a friend, he wanted to protect her from the toxic people.
"Okay. These days, I'm always hungry, so I can never say no to food." While rubbing her belly, she flashed him an embarrassing smile.
Unconsciously, her hand touched the envelope which had been hidden inside her pocket. Suddenly, her mood changed and her face scrunched into a completely different expression. Then, she glanced at Moore and said,"Can you wait for a moment? I am going to the bathroom first."
"Okay," Moore nodded in agreement. His gaze followed Jean as she walked into the washroom.
Reaching inside, she looked around and found that no one was nearby. Then, she shut the door of the toilet gently and took the envelope out carefully. With her lips pursed, she was filled with embarrassment.
'Joy and Shirley came here to ask for money as if I owed them something, ' thought Jean. From now onward, it was her duty to become extra careful. She could definitely not let them know that Zed had given her such an enormous amount of cash.
Carrying the money with her seemed like a bad idea. 'Now where can I hide this?' Confusion was evident on Jean's puzzled face.
Feeling anxious, Jean paced back and forth praying for an idea to pop. After racking her brain, her eyes suddenly gleamed with an idea. When she looked up, she saw a big unused drain pipe over her head.
Standing on her tiptoe, Jean tried to grasp the pipe. At last, she managed to hide the envelope inside it. Ensuring she hid it well, she clapped her hands together in an attempt to clear the dirt away from her hands.
For now, this seemed to be the best place to hide the cash. She was certain that nobody would expect a large sum of money in this dirty place.
Before she left the bathroom, Jean thoroughly washed her hands not wanting to give anyone any clues.
Coming outside, she noticed Moore was out of sight, so she walked out of the ward.
As expected, Moore was waiting for her on the aisle. Judging from his back, Jean noticed that he had an amazing profile.
She thought he would look more charming and attractive once the heavily wrapped gauze would get removed.
A smile crept on his face when Moore saw Jean walking towards him. Then, both of them trudged towards the canteen walking side by side.
