"I'm sorry to wake you up," Zed said softly.

"No, I was already awake," Jean replied briskly, while she selected the shoes she wanted to wear. "Is there anything you want from me? I think it is impossible for you to call me, just to ask me whether I am awake or not,"

Jean asked doubtfully.

"Of course not!" Zed said with a smile,"I see that you are getting smarter every day. Now you know more about me and understand me a lot more too."

'If not, last night, I wouldn't have lost control of my feelings and told you the truth.

It doesn't really matter because now I am capable of protecting you, '

Zed thought. "Is this something good or bad?" Jean asked playfully, with her head tilted towards one side.

"It's really a good thing!" Zed replied,"Okay, let's get down to business now. My grandpa's flight will land soon. I have to deal with something in the company. Could you please ask Jesse to take you to the airport so that you can pick up my grandpa? For my sake, Jean, please do not fight with Jesse, okay?"

"Zed, I wonder why you always send people to accompany me."

Jean finally asked the question that she wanted to ask for a long time.

she thought. "I send people to protect you, not to follow you," Zed explained. "Don't think too much. I will explain everything when I come back home tonight. Okay?"

Jean looked at the clothes she was wearing after she hung up the phone. She walked to the dressing room again and selected something decent to wear.

After she wore the dress she chose, Jean stood in front of the mirror and smiled. She put on light makeup, took her handbag and walked outside.

As she came into the living room, Jean didn't see Jesse anywhere. She thought of asking Zelda but soon she heard footsteps. Someone came down the stairs.

Jean raised her head suddenly. As soon as she saw Jesse, Jean envied the way she was dressed.

She knew that Jesse was beautiful. But today, she looked even more beautiful. Jesse wore a pink skirt with lace all over it with high-heeled white sandals. Her wavy long blond hair added an extra touch to her beauty. She looked like one of those Barbie dolls in fairy tales.

'As for me, no matter how beautiful my clothes are, it doesn't help me attract anyone's attention.

If somebody looks at me and then at Jesse, he would be able to tell the difference at a glance.'

Suddenly, Jean felt upset. She lowered her head and instead played with the tape on her handbag.

"Let's go!" Jesse walked up to Jean. Jean looked absent-minded so Jesse said,"What happened? Are you not going to the airport to pick up Grandpa Benjamin with me?"

"I am," Jean said as she looked up. Seeing Jesse's face, she felt uncomfortable and said,"Zed isn't going with us. That is why you are dressed up like this, but you have put in zero effort today."

"Who told you I dress up to please Zed?" Jesse finally understood why Jean felt that way so she sneered. "Grandpa Benjamin is the most important one in the family. If he likes you, then you can live a comfortable life in Qi family. And by the looks of it, I don't think he will ever like you by the way you are dressed. There is nothing extraordinary about you. Your dress makes you look quite ordinary."

"Why?" Jean immediately replied.

Jean wore an elegant suit with a light colour today. She thought, 'Old people often like light colours.'

"Don't mind me but it looks old-fashioned," Jesse said with lack of emotions. "But we still have some time. Why don't you get changed?"
