Atticus threw a small smile in Magnus's direction, just as Oberon chimed in.
"That seems to be the most logical option," he said. "Train like never before. Become as strong as we possibly can."
He paused, thoughtful. "That said... would it be possible to induce more paragons?"
The expressions of the others shifted as they each felt a flicker of hope.
If they could create more paragons, maybe... just maybe... their chances would improve. fгeewebnovёl.com
But Atticus shook his head.
He explained exactly what he had told Avalon carlier that day, and just like that, the flicker of hope was snuffed out.
They asked more questions after that, some out of curiosity, some out of desperation, and Atticus answered each of them patiently.
Eventually, after what felt like hours, he was finally able to excuse himself and return to his room.
As the door closed behind him with a soft click, Atticus let out a long sigh of relief.
"That was crazy"
Ozeroth's voice echoed in his mind, amused. "For a second there, I thought you were going to tell them everything"
Atticus didn't respond immediately. He walked to his bed and sat down slowly, his shoulders feeling heavy. Then, in a low voice, he responded,
"I almost wanted to... but I decided against it."
Revealing the truth about his reincarnation terrified him, not because he feared their judgment, but because he had no idea how they would react. To find out the child they raised had, in fact, been a grown-up all along...
But that hadn't been the main reason he held back.
"There's so much at stake already. Let's focus on one thing at a time!
Dumping everything on them now would've been an overload. Too many bombs dropped at once.
"Tch," Ozeroth scoffed. "Sounds like excuses to me..."
"Maybe," Atticus exhaled. He knew there was a chance they'd lose this fight, that everyone would end up dead. The thought of his family's last memory of him being filled with betrayal, confusion, and hesitation... it wasn't something he could accept. It was selfish. He knew that. But he wasn't going to change his mind.
'I'll tell them after we survive this!
"That's the spirit!" Ozeroth grinned. "Oh, I can't wait to crush that blood bitch!"
"The one you couldn't stop from escaping?" Atticus raised a brow.
"Oh, look who's talking!" Ozeroth snapped. "Do you have any idea how many enemies have slipped through your fingers? Our bond was supposed to be legendary! We were supposed to commemorate it with that paragon's blood, and you let him get away!"
Atticus's mouth twitched. He knew exactly who Ozeroth was talking about: Blackgate. The paragon who had barely survived their battle in Sector 8.
Then suddenly, his expression changed. A frown appeared on his face.
....That's right. I didn't see him."
Among the paragons of the Obsidian Order who had come to the military camp with the Zorvan... Blackgate hadn't shown up.
"I wonder what happened to him..."
Afterward, Atticus decided to meditate into the night, hoping to calm his mind and recenter himself. But just as he closed his eyes, a knock came at the door.
He didn't need to think to know who it was.
A few seconds passed, then the door creaked open.
Anastasia stepped inside, her eyes locking onto him immediately. The look on her face was so filled with worry, it was as if she believed he was seconds away from dying.
"Atticus..." she said softly.
"Mom..." he replied.
