Brooke—it was all Brooke. What would have happened had I found out a bit earlier? Will Enoch and I be able to reconcile? What would have happened? 

“Taryn!” I immediately snap out of it, turning to the voice beside me. It’s Liam. Right, we were in the drawing room. 

“I said your name twice,” Liam mutters, his voice louder than usual. “Are you deaf or just ignoring me?” he mutters, a bit annoyed. 

Shaking my head, I blink. No, I snap back to reality.My background registers and the white walls of the drawing room come into focus again, it’s as though my brain just did a hard reboot. 

Fuck. 

Focus, Taryn. 

I swallow the lump in my throat but my mouth is dry. My fingers are curled around the edge of the table, and I’m not sure how long I’ve been sitting here frozen, staring at the blurry photo on Liam handed me like it’s a prophecy or a death sentence. Maybe it is, considering how I’m reacting. 

Brooke. 

It was her. That fucking snake. 

She used Zoe to bait me. Used Lady Celeste to get close to Enoch. And then used me–my words, my trust, my laptop–to ruin everything. 

Liam cleared his throat and I turn to him, raising my brows. “So, what did you find out? Do you recognize the person on the image?” He nods onto the crumpled paper in my hand. 

“Nothing,” I mumble, voice hoarse. “It’s nothing.” 

Liam raises a brow before turning away in disbelief. “Bullshit.” 

I flash him a tight–lipped smile, the kind that feels more like I’m baring teeth than being polite. “Stop raising your voice. I was just thinking.” I snap, annoyed. It doesn’t help that this shit is getting to my nerves. I have to think of a way to confront 

that bitch later. 

“You looked like you were about to punch someone in the throat.” Liam mutters under his breath as he begins to organize the pictures in front of us. This is what I absolite;y don’t like about him. He’s uptight as fuck. 

“Oh, I am. Just not you. Yet.” I mutter, rolling my eyes. 

Before he can respond, a low growl rips through the air. A shiver immediately runs down my spine and I straighten up in my seat as we both turn to where it was coming from. 

No need to guess who though. 

I don’t even have time to roll my eyes before the chair besides Liam is kicked out of place and I sweat I think the legs broke off or something–which, knowing him, is a real possibility. 

Ugh, I really don’t have time for this. 

“Back the fuck off,” Enoch snarls, eyes flashing green. He’s stalking around the table like he owns the building. Which, okay, he might, but still.

“You raised your voice.” Enoch’s tone is clipped. Possessive. Very I’m–your–alpha–who you don’t go route the tha & sigh leaves my lipe. This is like a toddler fight I don’t wanna be in right now. His gaze cut to me, bending down to meet my eyes. My heart immediately skips a beat, “You okay?” 

Oh, I’m definitely gonna fall for it Thear Eris murmurs, lovestruck on the back of my head. I mentally smacked her, Cer grip: I send her a reply. 

1 breathe in—but ti doen’t help when his pheromones are this close. It’s like breathing in sex and chocolates which is not my strongest suits right now. “Enoch,” I say slowly, like I’m talking to a ticking time bomb, “we’re literally having a comeration. Not a fistfight.” 

“He was yelling.” he insists. 

I blink at him, furrowing my brows.. “He just said my name. Twice” 

“Loudly,” he raises his brows and I massage the bridge of my nose before looking back up at those forest greens. 

I glare. “Because I wasn’t answering.” 

“He should know better.” 

“Oh my fucking god, are you five?” 

“No,” he growls, standing back up to his full height. I crane my neck to meet his eyes and he looks down at me with confidence, “I’m your mate.” 

And there it is. The line. That stupid, stupid line that gets me every time. My heart does a sommersault and I bite my tongue to not say anything stupid. Snap out of it. He kissed his cousin remember? 

“That’s just how royals are‘ Eris‘ voice echoes in my mind again and I immediately put on a wall. This little skunk isn’t gonna get any of that, 

Our stare gets broken when a groans reverberates between us. “You two have unresolved shit and I’m too sober for this.” Liam sighs. 

“Then leave,” Enoch says, casually throwing himself into the armchair beside me as though he belongs there, as though we didn’t almost rip each other to emotional shreds last night. “She’s not going anywhere.” 

I snort. Yeah, that’s where you’re wrong. “Wow. Love that confidence. Hope it keeps you warm when I pack my shit and disappear.” 

“Taryn,” Enoch growls and this time, it’s a spicier one I dare not mess with. I keep quiet to appease him. Whatever keeps him from chaining me against the wall and locking me up like a slave, that is. 

Liam clears his throat and pointedly does not look at either of us. “Right. So before I leave and this turns into a porn set—” 

“Oh my god,” I immediately cut him off while Enoch laughs. Gosh, didn’t you just wanna rip him apart earlier? 

“I wanted to tell you about something. There’s a job offer. In Italy.” Liam trails off and my attention is immediately perked

My head gets heavy and before I knew it, a wave of both nausea and headache swirls inside my head. And then somehow, I’m back. Were in the rogue territory–the unclaimed lands right after we fled the Imperial Pack from the attack. 

We are sitting in the streets, my brother, Jesse is right beside me as he peels a mango with a sharp metal I’m not even sure is sanitized. Jesse is thirteen, I’m six. 

“-then we’ll build our own house there. Dad used to joke that he’d sell his soul for a summer villa in Tuscany. We never made it there. They both died before she could even renew her damn passport and-” his image disappears, his voice dissipating, and before I knew it, I’m back here. In the drawing room of the palace with these two idiots, 

“Ugh…“I groan. It was a memory. After we became survivors, it was Jesse who led me out. 

Liam watches me carefully, reading too much. “It’s yours, if you want it. No interviews, no strings. I talked to someone. A favor for a favor.” he continues. 

My heart skips, stalls, and then stutters again. Italy was my family’s dream. 

“You’d recommend me after all the shit I pulled?” 

He shrugs. “You pulled nothing. Someone used your words. There’s a difference.” 

I look down. There’s a lump forming in my throat and I hate it. “You don’t have to do this.” 

“I want to.” His voice softens. “If you don’t want to come back to the company, I get it. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep moving forward.” he smiles. 

I nod once, responding with a small grateful smirk. “I’ll think about it.” 

Behind me, I hear a very dramatic scoff. Ugh, if he says something stupid, I’m out of here. I can’t believe he can be this childish. He’s not amnesiac anymore! 

“Pfft. Italy. Please,” Enoch says, smug as hell. “I have friends there. I’ll get you a better job. Hell, I’ll buy the company and fire everyone who even breathes near you.” 

I stare at him. Silence engulfed the room until I finally break it. “Did you just offer to buy an entire business to one–up Liam?” 

“Obviously,” he smugly leans back in his seat, crossing those flexing muscles. Ugh, attractiveness is a disease. 

Liam deadpans, “You’re unhinged.” 

Enoch flashes a grin, raising his brows in a challenge. “And rich.” 

“And unhinged.” 

“Still richer.” 

“Okay, stop,” I groan, standing abruptly. “I swear to the Moon Goddess, I’m gonna throw both of you off the balcony.” 

Liam smirks, fixing his stuff in his bag. He stands up and smiles, winking at me. “Not if Italy gets to you first.” he mutters. He bows down at Enoch and gives me a goodbye grin before leaving. 

He walks out, leaving a trail of tension and chaos behind him. Enoch doesn’t even flinch. He just leans back in the chair, legs spread like some smug, golden god. Maybe he is, but he’s definitely a god that’s getting on my nerves right now. 

I fix my bag, pushing every single picture inside it, not even bothering whether they’re arranged. I want nothing more to do 

in this room than to leave.
