Chapter 278
Mikayla spun around. She had no idea when Jerome approached her.
His arm loomed over her as he pointed at the screen, identifying the contract loopholes for her. He was merely inches away from her nose. Naturally, his cedar scent that was mixed with a faint alcoholic aroma
wafted through her nose.
“Why are you looking at me? Look at the contract.” Jerome directed her head back at the screen.
assertive demeanor had her pouting her lips. Still, she didn’t object and read through the contract
again.
Comprehension dawned on her once she picked up on the issues Jerome detected. It wasn’t easy to spot the loopholes, but he managed to do so with a single glance.
Amazed by his capability, she now understood how he excelled at managing Miller Group.
Mikayla circled a few issues and amended them meticulously under Jerome’s guidance. Then, she sent it
over to Stephen.
She stretched herself once she was all done. That was when fatigue finally struck her.
She’d been under the weather, and she was busy throughout the entire day. Taking a shower and sleeping were the only things on her mind now.
Jerome, however, was planted next to her at the moment. His eyes were still hooded as he stared at her
with an indiscernible expression.
“I thought you didn’t bother much with your family business. You didn’t even want me to help you out. When did you become so attentive?”
Unfazed, Mikayla answered, “I didn’t want you to get involved because I don’t want to rely on you. Also, it’s only natural for me to care about the business. It’s my family’s business, after all.”
A pang of uneasiness shot through Jerome once he spotted her indifference. Pressing his lips together, he remained silent and lay down.
Mikayla ignored him and took a set of pajamas out of the wardrobe. She headed toward the bathroom.
The traces on her body faded after a day. Still, some were stubborn on the spots Jerome was harsher on.
She cursed under her breath and strode out of the bathroom in her pajamas.
Jerome had already fallen into a deep slumber. He wasn’t covered in a blanket, and he didn’t even take off his shoes. He slept with his back propped against the bed frame, breathing steadily.
His cold and distant features, seemed to soften during his sleep. It made him look gentle. Light cast down on his perfectly sculpted features, making him appear particularly alluring.
Mikayla remembered what she did on their first and only night here. She scrambled up at midnight after feigning sleep and made her way to Jerome’s bed. She couldn’t help but peck a kiss on his cheek.
