Chapter 44
Mikayla noticed that Jerome had returned to his usual demeanor. She was assured that he had faked being intoxicated and was playing tricks on her.
She stormed off angrily, leaving Jerome behind.
A subtle fragrance lingered briefly as Mikayla’s departing figure faded into the
distance.
Jerome sent a message to Mike, “Turn down the Bay development proposal from Luxze Corporation.”
Before Connor sent in his response, Jerome switched his phone off.
Mike was concerned about Jerome’s intoxicated state. So, he arrived at the
restaurant with the driver.
After instructing the driver to wait, Mike made his way toward the chamber.
In the chamber, Jerome was seated on the bench. His hand was pressed against his forehead. Furrowing his brows, Jerome appeared visibly unwell.
As Mike was about to greet Jerome, he observed Mikayla make her way to Jerome from the dining table. She held a towel with one hand while the other was hidden beneath it.
Mike tactfully stayed silent. He watched Mikayla tenderly dab Jerome’s
forehead with the towel.
Before he could marvel at Mikayla’s tenderness, he witnessed her pretend to toss something into Jerome’s collar accidentally.
Jerome was startled by the sudden touch on his skin. He immediately sat up
straight.
Everyone in the room was drawn to the abrupt commotion.
“Are you alright, Jerome?” a woman asked with concern.
“Oh. What happened to your shirt? Your pants…”
With the woman’s exclamation, the crowd’s attention shifted to Jerome’s attire.
His blue shirt had a few stains, while an uncomfortable wet spot marked his
pants.
Despite finding it incredulous, the crowd collectively remained silent.
When he realized the discomfort in his pants, Jerome’s face abruptly
darkened. He glowered at Mikayla.
Mikayla displayed a nervous and concerned countenance.
“You’ve had way too much to drink, to the point that… you can’t even hold it in?”
Mikayla said awkwardly.
“It’s no big deal, though. You don’t have to be embarrassed! We’re all family here. Nobody’s going to mock you. Isn’t that right, Auntie?”
Mikayla expressed genuine concern for Jerome.
“Absolutely! It’s common to feel like you’re dreaming when you’ve had too. much to drink. It’s totally normal.”
The woman nodded repeatedly upon being addressed.
Jerome had enough of hearing them talk. He walked toward the door with a
grim expression.
Connor’s smile faded as he respectfully offered, “Mr. Miller, the car’s waiting. Do you need any help?”
Jerome shot him a steely look and swiftly strode out.
Connor followed along.
Mikayla grabbed her purse. She apologized as she bid farewell to the crowd.
“I’m so sorry for the Inconvenience caused. But let’s forget about this incident, please. Thank you!”
With a polite bow, she exited the chamber.
As people exchanged baffled glances, an elderly sighed. He shook his head.
“Jerome had always appeared steady. How could that… Well, let’s just move on and not mention it again!”
