Chapter 57
Upon hearing his words, Mikayla didn’t react with her usual embarrassment
Instead, she asked him seriously, “You have a close relationship with Jerome, right? Can you convince him?”
Maintaining his aloof demeanor, Connor replied, “I’m tight with Jerome, but there’s no way I can convince him to like you.”
“I mean, can you persuade him to sign the divorce agreement?”
‘Absolutely not–huh?”
Connor had thought Mikayla would continue pleading. He was taken aback by her question.
“A divorce agreement? You mean Jerome wants to divorce you?”
“I want to divorce him.”
Mikayla corrected herself while handing the thermos to Connor.
She retrieved a divorce agreement from her bag and said, “However your
manage it, as long as you can get him to sign, I’ll be very grateful.”
“You, I…”
Connor felt as though his brain had just come to a screeching halt.
He was confused as to what was going on. He was perplexed over Mikayla
being the one to seek the divorce and wondered why she had a divorce
agreement on hand.
At that moment, Connor suddenly caught a familiar scent from Mikayla.
He sniffed and shivered!
The blanket in Jerome’s office had the same fragrance. It was faint but
unmistakable.
So, was the blanket that Jerome asked him to take Mikayla’s?
Then, could Jerome’s recent emotional troubles be related to Mikayla?
“I can’t take this!”
Seeing that Mikayla was about to hand him the divorce agreement as well, Connor quickly dodged like it was a hot potato.
“I don’t know you well. I can’t help you with anything!”
With that said, Connor returned the thermos to Mikayla and darted away.
Mikayla sighed.
She put away the agreement and continued walking toward the lobby.
The receptionist greeted her warmly, as usual.
Mikayla took the elevator to the office unaccompanied by anyone.
Mike was probably informed by the front desk, so he wasn’t surprised by her
arrival. He gestured that Jerome was resting in his inner office.
Mikayla pushed the door open and entered. Jerome was sitting on a single
sofa, seemingly asleep.
His head tilted back against the sofa, eyebrows lightly furrowed.
His lips were slightly dry and his breathing was a bit heavy. He looked
uncharacteristically weary.
Mikayla had never seen Jerome in such a lackluster state. He usually worked
like a machine and was capable of pulling consecutive all–nighters.
Out of humanitarian concern, Mikayla refrained from waking him up and approached to feel his forehead.
Indeed, he felt a bit warm.
Mikayla decided to go out and request Mike to buy medicine. But as she lifted her leg, Jerome grabbed her hand.
Mikayla turned her head and found Jerome with his eyes already opened. His deep gaze flashed a hint of darkness.
“Are you pretending to sleep?”
Mikayla shook off his hand, displeased.
Jerome adjusted his sitting position. He was still not looking great.
“Mikayla, if you are dissatisfied, just spit it out. Don’t broadcast the divorce
