Trevor felt that she was a little different that day, but he could not tell exactly what was different. His eyes fell on her bright and charming face.
"Is this a midnight snack? Drinking coffee at night?" Was she not afraid of not falling asleep!
Moreover, this cake had cream in it. It looked like very fattening food. Although she would bake cakes occasionally at night, they were mostly light steamed cakes, or an occasional tart. Even if she did it occasionally, it was obvious that she was very disciplined and paid attention to her figure.
After eating so much noodles plus meat in the evening, she still served a midnight snack of cake, which surprised Trevor a lot. "What's wrong? Are you going to indulge yourself after two days of illness?"
"I suddenly felt like drinking it, so I made a cup! This is the Tiramisu that I specially made for you. Technically, it tastes best after being chilled for at least a few hours, but..."
She couldn't wait any longer!
There was a rather warm origin story to the Tiramisu. It was said that during World War II, an Itawan soldier was about to go on an expedition, but there was nothing left in his family. For the sake of giving him dry food, his wife had added all of the biscuits and bread she could eat into a cake, and that pastry was called Tiramisu. Whenever this soldier ate food on the battlefield, Tiramisu would make him think of his home, and then think of the people he loved at home. Tiramisu, in Itawan language, meant 'take me with you' and 'remember me', bringing not only delicious food, but also love and happiness!
Even though what she made wasn't the most authentic Tiramisu, it was still a Tiramisu cake.
The reason why she chose this kind of cake was because she felt that this kind of cake was very similar to her current mood: She wanted to part with him, but she was reluctant. The future was unpredictable. She hoped that he would eat Tiramisu and remember this night, regardless of what kind of mood he was in.
After a pause, she continued, "But-I want to eat now! For the sake of my hard work, just eat a bit with me!"
Victoria gave him a small piece of the cut cake and put a spoon aside.
There were two glasses on the tray. One was a pure black coffee, which had no milk or sugar. It used to be Trevor's favorite, but now it was only drunk when he worked overtime or occasionally thought of it. When he was with her, he was used to adding milk and sugar like her from time to time, but he drank less of the pure black coffee. The other was a cup of Cappuccino which Victoria often drank. That day, the latte art drawn on the coffee was two hearts intertwined, and it was very delicate.
As soon as Victoria took back her hand, Trevor had already lifted up the cup and was about to put it in her hand. But before he could, Victoria stopped, held it, and pushed it to him.
"Let's switch it up today! I want to taste your 'bitterness', and you can enjoy the 'sweetness' of my love. We can share joy and suffering together, right?"
Once again, Trevor was shocked. "This pure black coffee was prepared for her? Is she going to drink it in the evening?"
She never liked the bitter taste. Every time he drank it, she would make fun of him. In the end, Frederick would often come up with an excuse. But on this day, everything changed.
When he was in a daze, Victoria had placed the coffee in his hand and kept the tray away. In front of both of them was a delicate Tiramisu cake and two different and unique drinks. When put together, it was a cup of black coffee and a cup with two hearts, as if her heart was in his cup, with the same unique taste.
In fact, what Victoria loved to drink was ordinary coffee, and Cappuccino was just an occasional change. But on this day, she was very fond of it, and the cup specially served also had a unique meaning.
The bitter taste was mixed with sweetness. It was still the same as before.
The Cappuccino had a lot of secret meaning behind it. It represented love, and also the meaning of comprehending life. There was sweetness mixed in the bitterness, and there was pleasure in pain. Most importantly, it also indicated that it was an unchanging wait; a wait that contained sweetness and bitterness, a heart of loyalty, an unchanging wait!
Some words couldn't be said directly, some were bitter, just like this night's coffee. She just needed to bear it alone. Victoria felt that this love of Tiramisu and Cappuccino was the most important thing for him, so she specially prepared this for him.
She smiled all the way, picked up the coffee, and took a sip. "I really want to drink it today. It's really a different enjoyment!"
Putting down the cup and cutting a little cake, Victoria sent it to Trevor's lips. "I made it myself. Even if you don't like it, you should eat it. Don't waste it!"
Although he did not like desserts, she did not reduce the amount of sugar used on this day. The sweet taste might have to remain between his lips and teeth in the future.
If it could last for a long time, she would be willing to lose her teeth.
Trevor shook his head and took it. "How naughty! How overbearing!"
While eating, Trevor raised his hand to pat her on the nose. "The dessert she made is definitely more than one and a half stars more exquisite than her cooking."
In fact, after being with her for a long time, he probably understood why she was like this, because cooking required using a stove, while baking used an oven! When she was a child, she was almost burned by hot oil. Although it was not serious, it did leave some trauma. Therefore, Victoria sometimes was obviously afraid of fire, not to mention cooking on a gas stove.
