"Where are you headed?" Qiao Sang took a sip of her coffee and asked casually.
"Zone One." The young man glanced over. "And you?"
"Also Zone One."
"What a coincidence. What time is your ticket?" The young man’s eyes lit up.
Qiao Sang did not answer but instead countered with a question:
"Where’s your luggage?"
The young man hesitated briefly and said, "I’m here for a mission. The person posting the task is covering meals and accommodations, so I didn’t bring anything."
Qiao Sang shot him a look. "Not even clothes?"
The young man scratched his head, looking slightly embarrassed, and said:
"I can go a week without showering."
Qiao Sang: "..."
Impressive.
Truth be told, she had been a bit suspicious of this person’s intentions in approaching her. After all, on Blue Star, she had once gained a significant following. She knew well the reaction of fans upon meeting their favorite Beast Tamer—the first thing they’d do was express excitement and ask for photos or signatures, not stay silent like this guy initially did.
But now, she wondered if she might be overthinking things.
At that moment, another blond-haired young man wearing a baseball cap walked over, discreetly glanced at Qiao Sang, then shook his head at the brown-haired youth:
"No contact yet."
The young man turned to Qiao Sang and apologized:
"Excuse me, I need to make a call."
Go make the call, no need to tell me... Qiao Sang inwardly complained but outwardly offered a polite smile and nod.
The young man stood up and walked toward the men’s restroom, accompanied by the blond-haired youth.
As the two left, Qiao Sang picked up her phone and dialed her mentor, Billet.
"Sorry, the number you’ve dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please call again later..." a soft female voice said through the speaker.
No connection... Qiao Sang’s expression darkened as she set down the phone.
By all reasoning, enough time had passed for Billet to leave that dense forest. How could his phone be unreachable?
Could something have gone wrong?
"Gangzhan."
Her thoughts were interrupted as her pet beast, Gangbao, made a noise, indicating that the human from earlier seemed suspicious.
If Gangbao said something’s off, then something’s definitely off... Qiao Sang immediately perked up her ears, intending to eavesdrop on their conversation.
But she couldn’t hear a thing. Not even the sound of typical restroom activity.
Qiao Sang’s vigilance immediately heightened.
Something was definitely off.
Considering her current auditory sensitivity, she should easily pick up surrounding noise in the restroom—even the sound of someone pulling down their pants. Yet she heard nothing.
This was the clearest sign of something amiss.
"Yaobao, listen to the sounds coming from inside." Qiao Sang gestured toward the restroom with Yaobao.
