So Close to the Truth
Kelly’s POV
“More! More!” Snow said happily.
I smiled and inserted more tokens. They’re playing basketball. Pierce was carrying her on his shoulders so she could shoot the ball while I was standing beside them, giving Snow the balls.
She wasn’t scoring but she’s enjoying. Pierce was also laughing with her and I couldn’t help my smile as I watched them. I never thought this would ever happen. I thought Snow is already happy with only me beside her, but seeing her now, I get it that she could be beyond happy with her father.
After the arcade, we went to the restaurant to eat. It’s dinner time and I can see that Snow is already tired. While eating, her eyes are already hooded.
I didn’t bring my car, so we rode Pierce’s car since he offered a ride. I didn’t refuse because aside from Snow being already sleepy and tired, I wanted to talk to him.
After what I witnessed today, I’ve decided. I want to tell Pierce everything and admit to him that Snow is his daughter. It scares me. I’m nervous. But I can’t hide this anymore. Tomorrow, I’m attending Phoebe’s birthday party. If I tell him tonight about Snow’s real father, I’m going to bring her tomorrow to the party and grab that chance to introduce her to her grandparents.
“You okay?” Pierce asked when he stopped the car because of the traffic.
I glanced at Snow behind us. She’s fallen asleep. I turned to Pierce again and stared at his face. “Can I talk to you later?”
He licked his bottom lip as I saw hesitation in his eyes. He swallowed hard and slowly nodded. “Yeah… sure.”
I nodded and looked outside the window. My heart is racing inside my chest. I don’t know how to start this but I need to tell him tonight.
When we reached the condominium tower, my heartbeat doubled. He entered the parking area and parked his car silently. Į opened the door beside me and watched him as he opened the door behind and gently carried Snow in his arms. I grabbed the stuffed toy Snow dropped and closed the door.
Pierce glanced at me. “I’ll carry her to your unit.”
I nodded. “Yeah. Let’s…talk upstairs.”
He nodded and started walking. I was just following him towards the elevator. I was walking slowly, staring at his back. My hands are already sweating so bad and my mind is in chaos. have so many questions lingering in my mind. Dominating was what should I do if he gets mad? What will happen to me? Will he take my daughter away?
The more I think about it, the more I get scared. So I shrugged the thought away and entered the elevator with him. A deafening silence was reigning between us, I don’t know how to start a conversation now that Snow is asleep and we’re alone in this enclosed space.
“We can…just talk tomorrow if you’re tired.”
I looked at him and caught his eyes shamelessly staring. “It’s okay. I’m not that tired.”
“Sleepy?” He asked as if postponing this. I feel like he doesn’t want to talk and his eyes are showing me that he’s scared of what I wanted to say. Does he think I’ll stop him from seeing us again after today?
I swallowed hard. It was me who’s very scared right now.
So Close to the Truth
When we reached the unit, I immediately put the passcode. I saw Pierce looking away as I put the passcode. Somehow, I felt my lips curving into a smile.

We entered and he gently put Snow on the bed. While he’s upstairs, I went to the kitchen and made two cups of coffee. I sat on the stool, waiting for him while playing with my finger. How should I start this?
It took him almost 10 minutes before he came down. I saw him staring at my face when I lifted my chin to look at him. He slowly walked down the stairs and sat in front of me.
“Sorry. She suddenly woke up and I had to put her to sleep again.”
I nodded. “Thank you. Uh…I made coffee for you.”
He slowly pulled the cup of coffee as I saw his tongue bulging from the inside of his cheek. He’s avoiding my eyes and he seemed nervous. This is making me nervous too. Damn! I’m about to tell him that Snow is his daughter and he’s probably thinking that I’d tell him to stop courting me.
“Pierce…”
“Kelly…”
My lips parted as our gazes met after we spoke in chorus.
“You go first…” he said, almost a whisper as he sipped on his coffee.

I chewed my bottom lip for a few seconds before I looked at his face again. “Thanks for today…”
I don’t know what to say, so I’d start with that. He looked at me. His eyes are softly looking at me.
“Are you angry that I joined your bonding?”
“No,” I immediately answered and shook my head. “It’s not that, Pierce. I’m actually happy because you made Snow so happy today.”
Finally, he smiled. “So…we’re still good?”
I pressed my lips together and nodded. “Yes. There’s…something else I want to tell you.”
He nodded. Now he’s comfortable. He’s staring at my face, waiting for what I’m going to say. Gone in his eyes was the uneasiness.
