The Decision 

Kelly’s POV 

Klay’s threat changed my mind. It brought me to a decision that I don’t know if I would regret later or not. I’m standing in front of the law firm where Attorney Lee was working. I called him early this morning after I thought about everything for almost three days. 

It’s too much. I feel sinking. Klay’s threat is scaring me because he talked about Snow now, not just me. I’m not scared for myself and he must’ve realized that He’s obsessed with me. He might not hurt me but he will hurt my daughter. All because she’s Pierce’s daughter. 

Heaving a deep sigh, I entered the law firm and went straight to the Information desk. I gave my ID to the staff and she immediately assisted me to the elevator while telling me directions to Attorney Lee’s office. 

My heart was beating so loud and fast. When I reached the office, the good lawyer greeted me with a pleased smile. 

“Good morning, Miss Monroe. Have a seat.” 

I nodded and sat on the chair in front of his desk. I put my bag on my lap and intertwined my fingers. 

“Do you want coffee? Juice br water?” 

immediately shook my head. “It’s okay, Attorney. I came here to talk to you about my mom’s real family. 

He nodded and seemed to become more attentive. “Have you decided?” 

I bit my bottom lip and sucked my breath. I’ve researched the Foster family. Lined with Anderson, Walter and Monroe that almost sank, Foster’s family business was one of the most successful businesses in the country. If ADE has always been the leading company for magazines, Foster Empire has been the leading hotel and restaurant company. It’s absurd how everything turned out to be this extravagant when I was just dreaming for a simple and happy life. I never wanted wealth. All I wanted was my dad’s love and attention. He didn’t fall on those parts but I failed him as a daughter. Now, my mom’s past is seeking my attention, I don’t wann 

fail again. I want to know everything about my mother whilst protecting what’s precious to me in the present time. 

“…want to meet my mother’s family, Attorney.” 

Attorney Lee happily snapped his fingers. “That’s a very good choice, Miss Monroe. When do you want to meet them so I can inform them beforehand?” 

“Can I meet them tomorrow, Attorney?” 

He smiled even more. “That’s a very good decision, Miss Monroe. Madam Foster doesn’t really want her eldest to manage the company. So when she was on her deathbed, she begged me to find your mom or her child as soon as possible.” 

My forehead creased. “She doesn’t trust her eldest son?” 

“She doesn’t trust his capability of carrying the responsibility of her legacy. She wants her legacy to continue and if Connor will be the one who will handle the family business, it will sink in less than ten 

years.” 

I chewed my bottom lip. “How about her other children? And mom disappeared when she was young. How sure is she that mom can handle a big company?” 

“Your mom was born intelligent, Miss Monroe. She was exposed to the world early because of her intelligence and when the people learned about her background, they became more interested in her. 

The Decision 

Your uncle and aunt, however, are the opposite.” 

“So Madam Foster had a high expectation of my mom” 

“Yes.” 

I nodded. “I want to know everything about my mom. How did she end up with the Peterson family? Who abducted her and why?” 

“Are you ready to hear everything, Kelly?” 

My lips parted as I stared at Attorney Lee. I felt like it’s a warning. I feel like I’m about to discover something very unusual and painful that I have to prepare myself emotionally and mentally. 

Attorney Lee grabbed a brown thick folder from the vault he opened. He put it on the table and gently pushed it towards me. “Madam Foster entrusted this to me since I helped her with the investigation from the very beginning. However, she was unable to finish the investigation because she fell sick. I had to do this alone and now that it’s done, it’s time for you to keep this.” 

I stared at the brown envelope. “Why do I feel like it’s scary, Attorney?” 

“Nothing in this world is not scary, Miss Monroe. Even our own shadow is sometimes scary.” 

I bit my bottom lip again and swallowed the lump in my throat. 

“Your mom was robbed of her blood parent’s love, but I can say that she lived a good and happy life.” 

lifted my eyes and looked at the Attorney again as I smiled. “She did.” 

After the conversation with Attorney Lee, I decided to go home. Since this is the weekend, I’m gonna spend the rest of the day with my daughter. Tomorrow I’m going to meet my mom’s siblings. 

I glanced at the brown folder while sitting on the driver seat of my car. I’m so curious about what’s inside, but I don’t wanna read whatever’s inside for now. Maybe after tomorrow. 

My phone rang which brought me back to my senses. immediately put my earbud on and answered the call. “Hello, Yara?” 

[Miss Kelly, where are you?] 

“On the road driving. Why?” 

[There’s an article about you spreading online. It was released just about 30 minutes ago. I’ll send you the link.] 

I shot an eyebrow up as I ended the call. I parked the car on the roadside so I could read the article. My lips parted after I saw myself in the photo. 

‘Kelly Monroe visiting a law firm for divorce or child custody?” 

I choke on my saliva after I read the title. What the hell? 

1 grabbed my phone from the holder and scrolled the screen to read the content of the article. 

‘The netizens are speculating that Kelly Monroe and Pierce Anderson, both a CEO of their companies, are married after Monroe attended Anderson’s younger sister’s birthday party with a little girl. Anderson was constantly seen in public with the little girl and just now, Monroe was seen in a law firm. Anderson was interviewed but he remained silent about the issue. Are they secretly married and are now divorcing? Is the child Anderson’s biological daughter?” 

I bit my bottom lip and shook my head. What the fck? 

I immediately called Ana to check on them. 

The Decision 

[Hello, Kelly?] 

“Ana, you’re at home with Snow, right?” 

Yes, but Snow wants to buy ice cream. I’m just changing her clothes.] 

I shook my head. “No, stay at home. I’m on my way home. I’ll buy the ice cream.” 

[Oh! Okay… Snow, mommy’s going home now. She said she’ll buy your ice cream. Here, talk to her.] 

I waited for Snow to speak while I’m driving carefully. 

[You’re buying my ice cream mommy? Is that true?] 

“Yes, sweetie. Stay at home with Aunt Ana, okay?” 

[Okay, mommy. Take care. I love you.] 

That eases my worry. I smiled. “I will. Love you too, pumpkin.” 

I sucked my breath after I ended the call. Just who the hell followed me so early in the morning? 

Greed 

Kelly’s POV 

While watching Snow eating ice cream with Ana, I’m standing on the balcony while talking to Pierce on the phone. He called to ask if I’m okay and he told me that he was almost harrassed by the media while jogging early in the morning. 

“How about Phoebe? The issue might affect her too.” 

[Dad hired some bodyguards for her. She’s fine. I’m more worried about Snow. She won’t have the freedom to go out and roam around freely anymore.] 

I took a deep breath and held onto the railing. “Yeah. I’m worried about her too. 

A deafening silence reigns us. I don’t know why I’m just standing there while listening to his breathing. Perhaps because the circumstances are pushing us away from each other. There’s Klay and then this issue. I can just end this by telling the truth to the public, but I don’t owe them the truth. This is my personal life. I have the right to keep this privately. I want my family to be private. 

[How about you? Are you okay? You can do everything you want to end this mess.] 

I bit my bottom lip. “This concerns both of us, Pierce. It’s not only for me to decide.” 

[My decision is up to you, Kelly. Whatever you think is good for Snow.] 

After talking to Pierce, I called Attorney Lee again. I requested for mom’s siblings to just come to the city since Attorney Lee said they’re in the province, residing in the family’s ancestral house. Attorney said he’ll talk to them and possibly, if they agreed, they’d be here next week. 

I used my time working from home so I can personally look after my daughter. I’m only going to the company whenever I have an important meeting. Pierce told me he won’t visit for a while but he’s calling everyday to ask about us. 

When it was time for me and my mom’s siblings to meet, I personally went to the hotel where they checked in. Attorney Lee called me when he got there and I came last. 

My heart raced as I entered the hotel room. I saw four people inside. The two women looked very sophisticated and the two men looked very strict. They’re already waiting for my arrival and how the two women scoffed didn’t escape from my eyes. 

“Kelly, you’re just in time.” 

The man wearing eyeglasses laughed sarcastically. “Just in time? She’s late, Attorney. She’s not the only one busy here. 

I took a deep breath and slightly bowed my hair. “I’m sorry for being late 

“Why don’t you apologize for making us come here too? You think so highly of yourself.” The woman in a red dress said, rolling her eyes. 

My lips parted. They’re rude! I suddenly want to growl at them for treating me like this but I want to respect them for my mom.
