The number on the file was a head start of an investigation. So, I hired a private detective agency and gave them the task of searching for old records.

No matter how long the night is, the sun always rises in the east to end darkness, converting it into light of hope and new beginnings. 

The notable private detective company assured me to complete the investigation as swiftly as possible, but Henry was furious. He didn’t wait for the results and announced his 

decision. 

“I will go and ask Leo directly. That sly fox must have known everything.” 

My brother’s emotional outburst mirrored my flaring anxiety, but it wasn’t wise to jump to conclusions without proper investigation. So, I comforted Henry, although I was in dire 

need of support. 

“We should wait for the final report, brother. If Leo is involved in blackmailing, he will be 

alerted by our rash actions. We will never be able to catch him.” 

As my son was now in the picture, I became overcautious, thinking ten times before taking any step. After finding out about the blackmailer, I had to start my son’s search. Someone kidnapped him from the hospital that night. I continuously prayed for my child’s safety while waiting for the reports during the next two days. 

After a painful wait of thirty hours, the detective agency sent me an email with ‘top secret” 

as the subject. 

“Thank you so much for your patience. We are truly sorry that we failed to meet our own high standards this time 

I skipped the formal sentences of apology and read further; my pulse was beating in my ears in anticipation.

“The number you gave me was registered in the name of Mr. Harvey Johns, a salesman who 

died ten years ago. It proves that an anonymous person used the fake ID to register an illegal number. 

Moreover, this number went out of service right after the date on records. Due to insufficient tracking system, it’s been too long to yield any useful information…” 

What the hell? 

Balling my fingers into a fist, I banged it on the table, groaning in frustration. “Another dead end. Why is this happening to me?” Grabbing my head in both my hands, I pulled my hair while crying my eyes out. The feeling of losing something close to my heart ached my chest. 

I was this close to finding out about that blackmailer, opening the way for my son’s reach. 

But suddenly, it was all in vain, pushing me back to square zero.
