Chapter 136
Chapter 136
SAGE
After much back and forth, Robert and Gertrude finally convinced me to let the kids go to school in the nearby town. Robert even cheerfully volunteered to drive them every morning. His excitement was contagious, though my heart still wrestled with doubt.
Was this the right thing to do? I’d spent years hiding, trying to keep my past from catching up to us. The thought of sending Ellie and Cooper out into the world filled me with uncase.
But my skepticism melted the moment I saw the pure joy in the eyes when we told them the news. Their excitement was contagious, and I couldn’t bear to take that happiness away from them.
“They’re going to be fine. Stop worrying,” Gertrude reassured my placing a comforting arm around my shoulder.
I let out a heavy sigh. “That’s what I’ve been praying for, Gertrude.”
She gave me a knowing look. “It’s been three years, sweetheart. Don’t you think whoever you’re hiding from has moved on by now?”
I wanted to believe that. Desperately. But part of me knew better–danger had a way of waiting, lurking just out of sight. “Are you not coming with us, Mommy?” Cooper asked, glancing up as he packed his bag, his silver hair gleaming under the morning light.
I swallowed the lump in my throat. “No, sweetheart,” I said gently
No one outside our small circle knew about the kids. Their rapid growth meant that, at just three years old, they looked closer to seven. It was safer if I stayed behind. If anyone recognized me, it could unravel everything.
“You’ll be fine with Grandpa Robert,” I assured him, brushing a lack of silver hair behind his ear. “I’ll be waiting for you when you get
home.”
Harper bounded up beside him, her red hair bouncing as she grinned. “We’re going to make so many friends, I just know it!”
“Just behave,” I warned playfully, though my heart ached at the thought of them being away from me. “And here, don’t forget about this,” I said as I tied her hair up and hid it underneath a bucket hat.
“I don’t like to wear a hat, Mom!” she complained.
“You have to, sweet pea, or I’ll not allow you to go out of this house,” I insisted. “You, as well,” I turned to Cooper as I put on another hat. It’s better safe than sorry. Their uncommon hair color might draw some unwanted attention. Not a lot of children have red and silver hair. One look at their hair and anyone will think they are not from here. I wanted them to stay under the radar as much as possible. “Remember, both of you are not allowed to remove your hats, okay? It’s for your safety,” I reminded them.
They both looked at each other as if trying to find the answers to their questions through each other. But eventually, they nodded in agreement.
“They’ll be all right, Sage,” Gertrude said softly, her voice filled with certainty. “You’ve given them a good start. Let them spread their wings a little.”
I nodded, though the decision still weighed heavily on me.
Chapter 186
Tll be going with them to buy some groceries for the house. Would you like anything?” she satel
I’m good, I answered.
“Will you be fine alone here?” she asked.
I nodded in response.
As I watched them climb into the truck with Robert and Gertruck, waving choice wouldn’t come back to haunt us.
citedly, I prayed to the Moon Goddess that this
I wanted them to have a life filled with joy and freedom. I just hoped I wasn’t risking everything we had worked so hard to protect.
My morning started quietly after Robert and the kids left for school. For the first time in years, the house felt eerily still without the sound of Harper and Cooper’s playful banter. I–busied myself with chores, trying to keep my mind from wandering into dangerous territory.
I scrubbed the counters, folded the laundry, and even attempted to bake a loaf of bread–anything to fill the silence and keep the nagging worry at bay. But just as the dough was rising, a cold breeze brushed against the back of my neck.
I froze, the hair on my nape standing on end. That feeling–chilling, ominous. It was the first time I felt this eerie feeling, but I knew exactly what it meant.. My heart raced, my instincts screaming at me that this wasn’t just paranoia.
Kieran.
He’d found me.
My breath caught in my throat as I glanced around the house. It was empty, thank the Moon Goddess. Robert and Gertrude were out, and the twins were safe at school–far away from whatever was about
I needed to act quickly.
Grabbing a pen and paper, I scribbled a note to Gertrude, my hands trembling
Gertrude,
happen here.
as I wrote:
Something urgent has come up, and I need to leave for a few days. Please take care of Harper and Cooper for me. Tell them I love them more than anything, and I’ll come back as soon as I can. Trust me on this. I wouldn’t leave if it wasn’t important. Please keep them safe.
Love,
*
Sage
I folded the note and left it on the kitchen table where Gertrude would easily find it. My heart ached as I thought of my children, but there was no time for hesitation. I couldn’t let Kieran’s presence put them in danger
Before I could take another step, a heavy knock echoed from the front door.
My chest tightened. He was here.
Taking a deep breath, I steadied myself and moved toward the door, every step feeling like a march to my own reckoning. I opened it, and there he was–Kieran.

The readers' comments on the novel: Betrayed by an Alpha claimed by a Lycan King (Sage and Titus)
Is it finished?...
...i mean...you had the perfect ending...why keep going?? ugh...i feel like author is going to continue with twists and turns [-_-]...
Don't mean to be rude but half the chapters are missing. As in your only publishing Half the chapter. Not all of it...
Would love more chapters...
ok just as a recap because i'm getting confused with this plot: sage (the daughter of the ex-alpha who was killed for betraying his pack) is contracted to marry the lycan king bc the present alpha doesn't want to give his own daughter to the king. sage sleeps with someone before the wedding (turns out to be the king). there's a caper at the palace where the king doesn't let her look at him bc he wants to keep her guessing for some reason but eventually she finds out that man she slept with is her husband now. there are other concubines and a queen but for some reason titus still doesn't have an heir despite being like thousands of years old. there is a prophecy that a red wolf will destroy the evil inside the king and when it comes to pass titus looks like he dies. sage runs away (she is the red wolf) bc shes scared of being called a killer. when she comes back titus has been manipulated to believe her "sister" is his mate. there's an intermission where sage runs away with her handmaiden to new york and they start a life for themselves. until titus buys out the company bc he's filthy rich and drags her back. the sister gets punished and jailed to be killed, but sage's intervention (due to her previous feelings for the brother) prevents her death. there's a point when the royal elders storm the castle and titus is jailed and almost at the point of death. taking the beta and her handmaiden they rescue titus and restore him to health. while sage was in new york, titus had somehow found his dead wife again (anna?) and she's very childlike and annoying. all the times sage saves titus doesn't matter because he's been deposed as king and brainwashed by his dead wife to believe she's everything to him. titus dissolves the bond between he and sage (bc of pressure from previous wife) but still has feelings for her and still sleeps with her while trying to reclaim his throne by making alliances with other werewolf packs. a bounty hunter offers his help but demands sage as the price. titus says no, but sage goes behind his back anyway and makes the deal. thinking titus is blinded by sage's presence that prevents him from forming alliance with a pack and having that alpha's daughter as his queen, she runs way with the bounty hunter and he puts her up for sale (she's an idiot for doing this). finding out she's pregnant with an accelerated pregnancy (due to blood moon sex?) she runs away from the auction house and is rescued by a couple who never had kids miles away from where she ran away. 3 years or so pass and she is happy with her chosen family until the bounty hunter finds her again and she goes with him to keep him away from her kids only to be rescued by titus at the auction house. he also finds her kids (bc they obvy would run away to find her) but she for some reason convinces them to lie and say they're not her kids. reunited again, they come across rogue wolves who hurt titus, but they somehow all fit into the helicopter that comes at the right time to save them all. titus while being gravely ill still saves sage from being sentenced to death, but now her kids are in danger....
ok now im reinvested! I hope the kids will be ok! titus now would be a good time to wake up!...
If possible, kindly change the title of the book too because Sage is suppose to be happy with Titus but this back and forth is making the book boring...
Please this has to stop , Titus is suppose to be her savior but she's going through too much...
This book really started good. And for whatever reason, the author keeps on adding boring and nonsensical twist to the story. I'm just skipping through chapters and story still the same.repeating issues and conflict and convo. So tiring. I'm just checking in hoping I can read the ending. Lolz...
We need an end soon. It getting boting and is so boring. Also people is missing. Were is her former maid and scott used to be her friend now he treat her like a stranger...
