Chapter 157
Chapter 157
SAGE
Deep inside I was already panicking, but I can’t let him know that. I can’t feed his suspicion with my actions.
“Sage, what are they doing here?” he repeated.

“What’s wrong with them being here? They were missing their mom. They’re sad, so I offered to comfort them by letting them sleep in my room,” I explained.
“You’re lying,” he said, which makes me hold my breath. “I know when you’re lying,” he added.
I laugh nervously, masking the fear creeping through my veins. “You always thought I’m lying,” I insisted. “I have no reason to lie, Your Majesty.”
He narrowed his eyes, taking a slow, deliberate step forward. “Is that so?” he murmured, his tone laced with suspicion. “Should I use our mind link to know the truth?”
I suddenly felt a lump in my throat, and I had a hard time swallowing. Can he really do that through our mind link? Or is he just bluffing?
“Go on, do that,” I called his bluff. I was holding my breath while waiting for his next move.
After what seems like forever, he finally broke the silence. “There’s no need for that.”
I subtly breathe out a sigh of relief upon hearing that.
His gaze drifted toward Harper and Cooper, their small forms nestled deeply in sleep on my bed. He studied them intently before speaking again. “I was suspecting they were yours. But they look to be around six or seven years old, and you’ve only been gone for three.” He turned back to me, his eyes sharp and calculating. “There’s no way they could be your children, right?”
I forced my body to remain still, my hands clasped tightly behind me to keep from trembling. “Y–You’re right,” I said, my voice carefully measured. “There’s no way they’re my children. I’m just fond of them. That’s why I wanted to comfort them while they were missing their mother.”
I held my breath, watching his expression for any sign of doubt. But to my relief, I saw his suspicion ease slightly, the tension in his shoulders loosening.
He gave me one last hard look before exhaling slowly, as if dismissing the thought. “Fine,” he muttered, “but keep them out of my way.”
I subtly let out a quiet sigh of relief.
“l continue this conversation in my room,” he said, turning toward the door without waiting for my response.
Panic flared in my chest. “No,” I blurted out, perhaps too quickly. I saw the way his shoulders tensed before he turned his head to look at me, one brow raised in silent challenge.
I cleared my throat, forcing my voice to steady. “I mean… I thought we would be talking in the library?”
Titus let out a low chuckle, the sound rich with amusement and something far more dangerous. He then turned around and took a deliberate step forward. He stopped just inches away, his warmth seeping into me despite the space between us. “Are you afraid to be alone with me?”
I opened my mouth to respond, but no words came out. I couldn’t deny the truth behind his words. I didn’t want to be alone
with him in his room.

Chapter 157
It wasn’t that I didn’t trust him.
I didn’t trust myself.
Not when his scent wrapped around me like a drug, not when the heat of his body made my own yearn for things I had no right to want.
I took a careful step back, gathering the remnants of my composure. “Library,” I repeated, my tone firmer this time. “If this is a discussion about legal matters, then it’s only appropriate we handle it in a proper setting.”
Titus studied me, his icy blue eyes darkening with something unreadable. Then, after what felt like an eternity, he smirked.
“As you wish, kitten,” he murmured, stepping back at last, though the smirk never left his lips.
Relief should have settled in my chest, but it didn’t. Not when he leaned in again, his breath warm against my ear, his voice dropping into a dark, taunting whisper.
“But just so you know…” His fingers lightly grazed my arm, sending an unwelcome shiver down my spine. “There’s no place in here that can keep you safe from me. If I wanted to, I could take you in every corner of that library.”
A sharp breath hitched in my throat, but I refused to let him see how much his words affected me. My skin tingled from his proximity, my body betraying me in ways I didn’t want to acknowledge. Instead, I forced myself to lift my chin, meeting his gaze with a defiance I wasn’t entirely sure I could back up.
“I’ll take my chances,” I shot back, my voice steadier than I felt.
Titus chuckled, the sound low and deep, rich with unspoken promises that sent another wave of heat creeping up my neck.

The readers' comments on the novel: Betrayed by an Alpha claimed by a Lycan King (Sage and Titus)
Is it finished?...
...i mean...you had the perfect ending...why keep going?? ugh...i feel like author is going to continue with twists and turns [-_-]...
Don't mean to be rude but half the chapters are missing. As in your only publishing Half the chapter. Not all of it...
Would love more chapters...
ok just as a recap because i'm getting confused with this plot: sage (the daughter of the ex-alpha who was killed for betraying his pack) is contracted to marry the lycan king bc the present alpha doesn't want to give his own daughter to the king. sage sleeps with someone before the wedding (turns out to be the king). there's a caper at the palace where the king doesn't let her look at him bc he wants to keep her guessing for some reason but eventually she finds out that man she slept with is her husband now. there are other concubines and a queen but for some reason titus still doesn't have an heir despite being like thousands of years old. there is a prophecy that a red wolf will destroy the evil inside the king and when it comes to pass titus looks like he dies. sage runs away (she is the red wolf) bc shes scared of being called a killer. when she comes back titus has been manipulated to believe her "sister" is his mate. there's an intermission where sage runs away with her handmaiden to new york and they start a life for themselves. until titus buys out the company bc he's filthy rich and drags her back. the sister gets punished and jailed to be killed, but sage's intervention (due to her previous feelings for the brother) prevents her death. there's a point when the royal elders storm the castle and titus is jailed and almost at the point of death. taking the beta and her handmaiden they rescue titus and restore him to health. while sage was in new york, titus had somehow found his dead wife again (anna?) and she's very childlike and annoying. all the times sage saves titus doesn't matter because he's been deposed as king and brainwashed by his dead wife to believe she's everything to him. titus dissolves the bond between he and sage (bc of pressure from previous wife) but still has feelings for her and still sleeps with her while trying to reclaim his throne by making alliances with other werewolf packs. a bounty hunter offers his help but demands sage as the price. titus says no, but sage goes behind his back anyway and makes the deal. thinking titus is blinded by sage's presence that prevents him from forming alliance with a pack and having that alpha's daughter as his queen, she runs way with the bounty hunter and he puts her up for sale (she's an idiot for doing this). finding out she's pregnant with an accelerated pregnancy (due to blood moon sex?) she runs away from the auction house and is rescued by a couple who never had kids miles away from where she ran away. 3 years or so pass and she is happy with her chosen family until the bounty hunter finds her again and she goes with him to keep him away from her kids only to be rescued by titus at the auction house. he also finds her kids (bc they obvy would run away to find her) but she for some reason convinces them to lie and say they're not her kids. reunited again, they come across rogue wolves who hurt titus, but they somehow all fit into the helicopter that comes at the right time to save them all. titus while being gravely ill still saves sage from being sentenced to death, but now her kids are in danger....
ok now im reinvested! I hope the kids will be ok! titus now would be a good time to wake up!...
If possible, kindly change the title of the book too because Sage is suppose to be happy with Titus but this back and forth is making the book boring...
Please this has to stop , Titus is suppose to be her savior but she's going through too much...
This book really started good. And for whatever reason, the author keeps on adding boring and nonsensical twist to the story. I'm just skipping through chapters and story still the same.repeating issues and conflict and convo. So tiring. I'm just checking in hoping I can read the ending. Lolz...
We need an end soon. It getting boting and is so boring. Also people is missing. Were is her former maid and scott used to be her friend now he treat her like a stranger...
