“Get an abortion,” Zachariah answered without hesitation.
Ophelia’s face suddenly turned pale, and she felt like a knife had stabbed her in the gut.
“Don’t you want your child?” Ophelia asked, her fake smile unwavering through her pain.
“Only the woman I love can bear my child. If you are pregnant, then I will ask someone to arrange a doctor’s appointment for you tomorrow and you can get the abortion.” Zachariah answered in an indifferent tone and wearing a blank expression.
Ophelia never expected Zachariah would be so cruel to her after their four years of marriage. Apart from their passionate lovemaking, he had no feelings for her at all.
‘Abort the child?’ Was he really so brutal he would decide to kill his child? She would never share another moment of her life with such a man.
Ophelia tried to shake off her complicated emotions and forced another smile. “Are you really going to require me to get an abortion?”
Zachariah looked at her with no apparent emotion on his face. “I told you on our wedding day that our relationship would be like one between an employer and employee. I pay you money to use your body and once we’re divorced, I will transfer a sum of money to you as compensation. If you become pregnant during our arrangement, I am to compensate you for the abortion. We already made a deal. Are you trying to threaten me with the child?”
Ophelia lowered her head to hide the tears welling in her eyes. Zachariah was being as cruel as any man could.
Zachariah’s face darkened as he grabbed her chin and forced her to look up at him. When seeing her eyes reddened, he shot her an appalling look.
“Why are you crying?”
Ophelia pushed away his hand and turned away from him. “I’m not crying.”
Zachariah turned around her face again and spoke in a deep voice. “Are you really pregnant?”
However, Ophelia only glanced at him and puffed out her cheeks.
“Are you really pregnant?” Zachariah repeated with little patience.
Ophelia glanced at him and faked a smile. “Mr. Chambers, if I am pregnant, will you actually arrange for someone to take me to the hospital and abort him?”
She pushed his hands away again and responded distantly. “Mr. Chambers, I am tired and don’t want to do anything today. I’m sorry, but I don’t have the strength to please you. You can sleep here, and I will go to the guest bedroom.”
She turned to leave without waiting for a response.
Zachariah frowned and his voice deepened as he called out. “Are you really pregnant?”
Ophelia stopped and answered. “Don’t worry. If I am pregnant, I will go to the hospital by myself. I don’t want my child to grow up without a father.”
Zachariah became more anxious. He wasn’t used to Ophelia being so rational.
“Ophelia, stop!”
Upon hearing his words, Ophelia stopped in the doorway.
Ophelia didn’t even turn as she spoke calmly. “Mr. Chambers, do you have anything else to say?”
