Chapter 47 The Fastest Man
Entering the box from last night, the assistant turned on all the lights.
The lights were bright.
Gwenyth walked over to the sofa and bent down to search.
Edison waited beside her with an impatient look on his face.
"Did you find it?"
"Not yet."
Gwenyth searched the whole couch, even the cracks, then got back down on the floor and looked under it.
Edison watched her earnestly search for her phone, and his anger got the better of him.
"Stop looking."
It's just a phone, just buy a new one.
Gwenyth ignored him and continued to search elsewhere.
He walked over to her, took her wrist in his and yanked her up off the floor, pulling her out.
"Just give me some more time."
"No."
He dragged her all the way out and pushed her into the car.
Gwenyth had thought he was taking her back to Rangeley Bay, but the car pulled over at the downtown shopping district.
Edison took her into a mobile phone shop and bought her the latest model of phone.
Gwenyth's hands were shaking slightly as she took the phone from the man.
"I don't have the money to pay you back right now."
"No need to pay it back."
Edison quickly took her to the business office again, to get a replacement phone card.
On the way back, she had been fiddling with her new phone, her original model was so old that the new one felt new in her hands.
"Edison, the money for the phone and for the window glass, you can just take it out of my pay."
She couldn't take such a big advantage of him.
The latest model of phone cost more than ten thousand dollars.
Earlier she had smashed his car window glass and he said it would cost a hundred thousand to replace it.
It wasn't chump change, and it was time to pay for it.
Edison pretended not to hear her and leaned back in the back seat to sleep.
It was noon by the time they got back to the Moonlight Bay.
Edison entered the house and sat down on the sofa like a master, "Go and cook."
Gwenyth put her new phone down with some reluctance and ran into the kitchen to prepare lunch.
Edison could see her busy in there, leaning back on the sofa, his eyes narrowed and his lips curled in a faint smile, unable to take his eyes off her beautiful figure.
On closer inspection, she was actually quite thin, her waist as thin as if he could grab it with only one arm.
She lived in a shabby house with her family and was living on such a tight budget that he dreaded to think how she had come through these four years.
Looking at her back, he somehow remembered the night of her eighteenth birthday ......
His Adam's apple bobbled in his throat, and he got up and walked over to her.
Gwenyth was chopping vegetables with a serious face, not noticing his approach.
He reached out and embraced her from behind, visibly feeling her startled as her body shook with it.
"What are you ...... you doing?"
Gwenyth's heartbeat went out of rhythm.
Edison suddenly came over and wrapped his arms around her waist, and as soon as he was close enough, she could smell the faint scent of mint on him.
That was the smell of the cigarettes he smoked.
"Have you ever tried it in here?"
He leaned his chin on her shoulder and looked at her sideways, his warm breath spraying on the nape of her neck as he spoke.
She ducked to the side, "What?"
"Want to try it here?"
"Try what?"
She didn't catch the meaning of Edison's words, her heart still pounding.
Edison jerked her hand and moved the chopping board on the kitchen counter.
The countertop was cleared of a blank space.
Before Gwenyth could understand what he was doing, his hand suddenly cupped her chin and turned her face to the side.
He kissed her and took her lower lip gently in his mouth.
She wanted to resist, but she didn't dare.
She couldn't fight him at the risk of breaking the contract, so she had to let him kiss her, press down on her, and she bend over the kitchen counter with her eyes closed. She just needed to pretend it was a dream.
