Attached under the message was the address of a street. I immediately knew where it was. Though I’d never been on that street before, I knew it was located on the outskirts of town, and it was a two–hour drive away from the house. Only a few houses stood in that area
since it was far from civilization. The houses were situated far from each other, and if something bad happened, there would be no one around except for the vast array of tall trees that surrounded the area. Finding help would be impossible.
Indeed, it was a perfect place to lure someone and commit a crime without anyone noticing. Someone could just toss a dead body in that street, and no one would even notice it for years.
My grip tightened around my phone. Dylan’s life was at risk! What if whoever sent the
message was telling the truth and he held Dylan captive? It was my only chance to see my son alive.
But then, a huge doubt crept into my mind, telling me that whoever sent me the message could be lying. He was a stranger, and that made him untrustworthy. He might just be
using Dylan’s name–my biggest weakness–to lure me into coming in order to get what he wanted. Perhaps he wanted revenge because I did something he didn’t like in the past. Though I couldn’t recall ever making enemies, there’s a huge possibility that the motive could be revenge.
“I’m talking to you, Lily,” Grey said loudly, pulling my skittering thoughts back to the
present.
I realized I had spaced out.
Lifting my head, I looked at him and caught him staring at me with a deep frown on his forehead. “I’m asking you what’s the matter.”
I opened my mouth to say something, but the words wouldn’t come out. My throat felt tight and dry from the chaos burning inside me.

“Lily!” Grey called again, jolting me out of my thoughts, which were beginning to skitter
again.
I summoned all the courage I could muster and let the words out of my trembling lips. “S- someone just sent me a text message,” I replied in a barely audible whisper, my heart racing inside my chest in apprehension.
“What did it say?” he asked, deepening the frown on his forehead.
“Whoever sent the message is asking me to come to the address he provided if I want to see my son, Dylan.” I replied, my fists tightly clenched into balls at my sides. I was doing my
best not to burst into tears.
When he moved to take my phone, I willingly gave it to him. He read the text message, and when he finished, he handed it back to me. His worried eyes shifted to my face, where the
color had drained.
“We can’t be sure if he’s telling the truth,” he said logically, and I couldn’t agree more.
“But if the person who sent you the message is the same one who sent us the email, he could be telling the truth,” Grey told me seriously. The foreboding feeling inside my chest intensified, knowing he was right.
Feeling my weak legs could collapse if I didn’t sit down, I crossed the living room and slumped onto the sofa. Grey did the same, sitting down beside me while still holding Isabelle in his arms.
“What are you planning to do?” he asked.
Running my fingers through my hair in exasperation, I replied, “I really don’t know, Grey.” I said his name for the very first time.
“We should tell your parents about this. They will be able to help us.
“No!” I gasped, violently shaking my head. “My parents will call the police! I bet they will. Once the culprit finds out that the police have been alerted, he might do something to harm the child. Even if the child is not Dylan, I couldn’t afford for him to get hurt.”

Grey looked at me with understanding in his hazel–green eyes. “I know… I’ve thought about that, but I’m just thinking that your parents deserve to know what’s going on.” @
“We should investigate together. We could go to that place tonight.”
He shot me a sharp glare. “No!” he blurted out firmly, with finality in his tone. “I will do it on my own. You are not going with me.”
“Are you crazy?” I argued. “The culprit wants me. If he knows you went there alone, he might hurt you!”
“I’d rather get hurt than see you get hurt, Lily,” he bit back ferociously.

“I’m not going to get hurt, Grey… We are in this together, so we should go together. Dylan is our son! If he is indeed alive, we need to be there for him. I could pretend I went there alone, and just in case things go out of hand, you can contact the police.”
“You’re stubborn… Why don’t you just obediently follow what I say? I’m going alone.”
“No, I’m going with you, Grey.”
Once more, he glared at me. I ignored the sharp look he was giving me and ferociously stared straight into his eyes.
Our argument was suddenly suspended by the loud ringing of my phone. I jerked in surprise and abruptly grabbed the phone, staring at the screen. The unregistered number was calling again.
I broke into a cold sweat as my trembling fingers pressed the button.
“Hello.”
“I just called to warn you not to tell anyone, Lily,” a robotic voice on the other line said. The culprit was using a voice changer, completely shielding his real identity. “If I find out

anyone, I will kill your son, Dylan.”
I swallowed deeply and hard. I felt like bursting into tears, but I stopped myself. “How will I

know that you’re telling the truth, that my son Dylan is alive?” Despite the violent hammering inside my chest, I managed to ask in a calm voice.
