Chapter 46
Speaking of the devil, my soon–to–be ex–husband was calling, Pressing my lips tightly into a thin line, I pressed the answer button none too gently. However, before I could express the bubbling rage within me, someone spoke before I could. A female voice! The realization made my forehead scrunch
in confusion.
“Why are you calling my boyfriend? Are you
u one of his obsessed stalkers?” a woman’s complaining voice pierced my ears. Finched the phone away from my ear to save my eardrum from her sharp tongue,
Who the hell am I talking to? I asked myself, wondering if she had called the wrong number. I glanced back at my phone screen and saw Grey’s number flashing right in front of my eyes. Definitely, she hadn’t called the wrong number, I thought to myself in growing irritation.
s not good! My brain warned me. When Grey is involved, nothing good comes out of it
“May I know who I’m speaking to?” I asked politely, despite the urge to scream in her ears too.
“His pulfriend! I saw your number in his call history and discovered you sent a voicemail to him too. I just want to let you know to stop calling my man!”
That cheating bastard! After getting Natalia pregnant, he already jumped to a new lover! The thought made my chooks tum crimson with fury. My fists itched to punch him in the face. If he were here, I wouldn’t waste any time–I’d be pounding my fists hard into his proud face.
I never had a violent streak in my body, but I felt like murdering Grey right now!
The jerkt Assholel Arsehead! My lists tightened at my side, then I shifted my attention back to the woman on the phone.
“Girlfriend number two or three?” I replied in a surprisingly calm manner, even though all I wanted was to vent out all my frustrations at her. “Shame on you, and shameron your lover too. I’m his wife, so fuck off I have no time for women like you.” I pressed the end button before she could reply.
bail–expected her to call again, and I was quite relieved when she didn’t.
The phone rang again. I picked it up; however, it wasn’t Grey’s number flashing on the screen but Lia’s.
Thadn’t had the chance to talk to her after I was fired from La Paraiso Hotel Texting her slipped my mind too. She’s probably sulking that totally forgot her. Diting my lip, I answered the phone. “Hello”
“I hate you,” Lia said. She was sulking I thought to myself, feeling guilty that I had made her worry. Though she might say she hates me, she actually didn’t. It was her way of expressing that I had wounded her feelings by neglecting her. “I tried calling you several times, but you were out of reach. I’m wondering if the stress has gotten to your head and you decided to jump off the nearest bridge,” Lia added in exasperation.
These past weeks have been a rollercoaster for me. The stress has been heavy, and I was almost close to jumping off a bridge. Lucky for me, though, I wasn’t the suicidal type.
“I’m so sorry, Li. I got kicked out of my house. The loan sharks took it as collateral because I wasn’t able to pay my father’s remaining loans. I found a new place to stay and I’ve been busy hauling my things into my rented bed space apartment
“You should have told me. You could stay at my house,” Lia offered.
“I don’t want to be a burden to you.”
Lily. You’re my best friend, and through thick and thin, I’m here for you. You could have saved rent if you stayed at my house.”
“You’re not, Lily.”
Exactly the reason why I didn’t call Lia for help, I thought to myself. She would refuse the money I would pay her. I didn’t want to be a freeloader in her
home.
“I understand your situation, and I forgive you now. You owe me a cup of coffee as an apology.”
A relieved rush flowed through me at her words.

“Thank you,” i mumbled.
“Anyway, I’m heading out of the hotel now. I filled in for an absent employee yesterday and worked until twelve p.m., so I’m free now. Can we meet? I have something important to tell you,” Lia said seriously, making me wonder what she wanted to discuss.
“Perfect! I’m still here in a coffee shop. You can head straight here, and I will treat you to a cup of coffee.” I gave her the address of the coffee shop and ended the call
My cappuccino finally arrived. The server placed the cup in front of me, filling the air with the mouth–watering scent of cappuccino
Finally! A way to relieve my stress! I sighed contentedly, eyeing the steaming cup.
“Do you have any yadditional orders, Ma’am?” the woman smiled at me as she asked.
“I would like to order two slices of tiramisu cake and a café latte.” After scribbling my order on her note, the server
