Don’t Mess With Me
The air of elegance that Natalia carried with her vanished, revealing a woman who, despite her beauty, was harboring insecurities “You- she spat, her cheeks turning crimson. She spoke loudly enough to attract the attention of the small crowd. Realizing a dozen pairs of eyes were on her, she pursed her lips into a thin fine.
“Sorry to cut this conversation short. You’re not the only guest I have to attend to.” I didn’t waste a moment waiting for her reply Turning my back to her, I held my chin up and walked away
I closed the door to the employee room and let go of the breath I hadn’t realized I was holding before collapsing onto the upholstered chair.
My eyes fluttered closed. I almost didn’t recognize myself a moment ago. It was as if an inner beast had been unleashed
within me
The door opened abruptly. My eyes flew open at the sound, and I found Lia closing the door before sitting in the chair next
to me
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but I heard everything,” she breathed, worry sparkling in her eyes. “Are you okay?” she asked, trying to read the emotions behind my impassive expression.
“1 am fine, Lia. Thank you for asking.” I eased the worry that had been written all over her face.
“Don’t feel guilty about what happened, okay? Natalia was rude to you. She deserves everything you said to her.” Lia’s tone was reassuring.
Realizing she had read my thoughts well, I straightened in my seat, my eyes wide with surprise. How could she pinpoint exactly what I felt while I was still recovering from the storm inside me after what had just happened?
“You handled the situation with grace, Lily. If I were in your shoes, I would have slapped Natalia and pulled her hair until she went bald,” Lia exclaimed, pumping her fist in the air as if she were playing the scenario in her mind.
I knew Lia was trying to make me feel better, and somehow, her words were working.
“You’re so brutal, Lia,” I mumbled, attempting to suppress a smile.
“I must admit, I am. But there’s a good reason behind that. If we let people hurt us, they will do it again. We should show them we are not the type to mess with.”
“That’s what I admire most about you, Li. Your honesty,” I whispered.
Lia just smiled in response.
When we finally returned to the dining area, a flock of customers had entered the restaurant. But it wasn’t the astounding number of customers that made me stop; it was the sight of Grey with Natalia seated opposite each other.
Crash!
repeated the words in my head like a mantra and pushed the trolley until it rolled across the floor.
With grace and expertise, I served the food the Successfully unlocked! owing my movements with his eyes, but I acted normally, pretending I wasn’t bothered by unose piercing gray eyes.
Given how calm I was while serving them, I truly deserved an award. Under normal circumstances, a wife would be enraged at the sight of her husband and his mistress together. But I valued my job and respected him enough–though he did not deserve it–to not cause a scene.
Don’t Mess With Me
If the truth were to come out and everyone learned he was my husband, all hell would break loose, Benedict Bradford, Grey s father, would strip him of his inheritance.
But could there be a better revenge than making Grey lose his valued inheritance? An evil voice whispered in my ear, and for a moment, I was tempted by the idea.
Why not?
Natalia Romani would leave him in the blink of an eye if that happened. She would then hop onto her next target, leaving him begging on his knees. That’s the kind of woman she is. Not content with juste man.
The scenes I pictured in my mind were so tempting that it took all my will and strength to banish them
I shuddered at myself for even entertaining the idea. I had self–respect and class, I wouldn’t allow myself to be cheap and desperate enough to cause a scene in front of this audience of upper–class members and prominent families.
I heaved a sigh and straightened my spine after placing the last plate on the table.
