Chapter 83
Sharp lightning carved through the sky, followed by the deafening sound of thunder. The rain began to pour, and I ran to my car before it could completely drench my clothes.
I didn’t look back to check if Grey had followed. I just wanted to escape from this place quickly.
Opening the car door, I climbed inside and closed it behind me. Without a moment’s delay, I turned the engine on and maneuvered the car out of the cemetery’s parking area.
The tears I’d been trying to suppress broke free. They trickled down my flushed cheeks and slipped further down my lips, where I tasted the saltiness.
I was far from the cemetery now, but my mind was still on the man I left behind.
Why does my heart still race like crazy and my pulse skitter every time I see him? Why does it still hurt inside even though I told myself I don’t love him anymore?
Those questions were simple, and yet I couldn’t answer them on my own.
I continued to drive in silence until my tears finally stopped. Instead of returning home as I had planned, I decided to go to La Paraiso Hotel to pick up some important documents. My car skidded to a stop in front of the hotel.
Before leaving my car, I fixed my face in the rearview mirror. Afterward, I brushed my long hair with my hands. Looking at my reflection and seeing my appearance was presentable enough, I got out of the car.
At this point, the rain had stopped, and I slowly walked across the upscale entrance.
The moment the door opened and I stepped inside the lobby, the sound of a woman’s loud voice reached my ears. Instantly, my forehead scrunched in confusion as my gaze drifted to the front desk, where I heard the commotion coming from.
There, in front of the tearful receptionist, stood a woman with her hair pulled into a perfect

chignon at her nape. She was wearing a fashionable hat that covered half of her face, making it impossible for me to see what she looked like,
“Where is my husband?” the woman screamed scandalously, causing more heads to turn in
her direction.
She was rudely treating my employee! One thing I didn’t want anyone to see inside my own hotel was a guest looking down on my employee and treating them impertinendly,
I quickly marched to the front desk, which was now filled with curious perks,
“Liar!” I heard the woman spit. “He left the house this morning, and took his belongings with him! I know he’s staying here! Just tell me his room number, and this will be over!” The well–dressed but unfortunately ill–mannered woman screamed at my staff, and I tried hard not to wince at the sound of her irritating voice.
She’s getting on my nerves, I thought to myself, but wait, her voice sounded familiar!
My eyebrows merged into a single line as I made my way past the crowd gathered in front of the front desk.
“I’m telling the truth, Ma’am,” my receptionist replied, trying to suppress the tears from falling down her cheeks.
“Are you hiding him? Did he tell you not to give his room number to anyone? I am his wife! I have every right to know!” the woman growled.
“Please leave, Ma’am. Mr. Bradford is not here. I’m telling the truth.” Despite the pressure mingled with fear, the poor girl collected herself and added, “He didn’t come here at all. You are his wife; you should know where your husband is!”
The woman was Natalia! I gasped upon having a brief glimpse of her face.
I was shocked at first upon realizing she was the woman making a scene in my hotel. However, my surprise was short–lived. It was replaced with a sense of relief that finally, I could face her without feeling a bit of fear.

“How dare you say that to me! Have you no respect?” she yelled.

“I apologize, Ma’am. But respect is earned, not given!” My receptionist bit back ferociously. Perhaps she had finally lost her patience. I was actually surprised she was able to hold onto her composure for that long. “You can’t demand it from me when you don’t even deserve a speck of it!”
Finally, after a moment of struggle, I reached the front desk and saw Natalia raising her
hand into the air.
However, before her palm could hit the girl’s cheek, I jumped in between them and grabbed
her wrists.
“Hurt her, and I will use your precious face to mop the very floor you’re stepping on. I won’t even care if you’re pregnant,” I whispered the words close to her ear, making sure no
one heard them.
Natalia let out a startled yelp. Slowly, she raised her head to me while trying to pull her
hand back, but I was stronger than her. Despite her struggles, I didn’t let go.
“Bitch, let me-”
Her lips parted in pure horror. Her eyes widened as she stared at me, so much so that I was
afraid an apple could fit into them.
“Surprised to see me?” I whispered sweetly with an evil smile on my lips.
She opened her mouth to speak, but no words emerged. I witnessed how the color drained from her face, as though she’d seen a ghost–the ghost of the woman she tried to kill but miraculously survived!
“Swallowed your tongue?” I said softly, raising my eyebrows.
Natalja didn’t respond. Her eyes remained glued to my face. Something that resembled fear crossed her eyes. The woman who had been screaming at the top of her lungs a moment ago was now a meek sheep facing her predator.

I signaled two female security officers to come. They abruptly skittered in my direction. Before they could pick up Natalia, I whispered one last message to her.
“I heard you’re searching for Grey? You know where he is? In my room. We spent the night together.”
Natalia Romani screamed in rage. She pulled her hands free, and this time I let her go. She lunged at me, but before she could lay a finger on my skin, two uniformed security officers grabbed her by each arm and gently dragged her outside the hotel.
The watching crowd parted to give way.
I didn’t tear my gaze away until Natalia was safely escorted out the door. Though I hated
her, I didn’t want anything bad to happen to her unborn child.
When she disappeared through the door with two of my security staff, I tore my gaze away from the door. The traffic in front of the front desk eased. When the girl and I were finally alone, I turned to her. “Are you alright?” I asked, my concern escalating as I realized she
was still trembling.
One of the hotel employees was kind enough to grab a chair for the poor girl to sit in.
Another, who must have been her close friend, rushed to give her a glass of water.
“I–I’m fine now,” she replied after drinking some water to help ease her shaking. “I’m glad
you came. She’d been harassing me for half an hour before you arrived,” she told me.
“Don’t worry; she will never set foot in the hotel again. From now on, she’ll be blacklisted.”
The girl sighed and then fell silent. After a moment of hesitation, she finally spoke again. “Are you going to fire me for my misdemeanor?” she asked, looking me straight in the
eyes.
I shook my head and gave her a reassuring smile. “You did nothing wrong. Though I don’t tolerate my employees answering back to anyone, I will make an exception today. The woman is not a guest, and she’s making a scene to disrupt other customers. You said what you said to show her not to look down on you.”

Relieved, she let out a sigh and mumbled, “Thank you.”

Finally, after making sure my employee was alright, I allowed her to return to the front desk to resume work. I then went to my office to pick up some important documents before
