Chapter 96
Grey pretty much occupied my mind the whole day. I tried to push him out of my thoughts, but to no avail. Some things, the more you try to get rid of them, the more they refuse to leave your mind. That’s exactly what was happening to me. Despite the distraction, t managed to finish things earlier than I expected. Glancing at my wristwatch and seeing that an hour was left before Grey arrived to pick me up, I rose from my swivel chair and fixed my appearance in front of the mirror. I had no idea where he was taking me, but i wanted to look presentable. I thought to myself as I applied a thin layer of lipstick until my lips were shiny and red.
Unfastening the pink ribbon that secured my long hair into a ponytail, I let my curly hair cascade down my shoulders like a waterfall. I ran my fingers through the soft strands until there was not a single knot left, then surveyed my reflection once more. A satisfied smile crossed my lips upon seeing the woman standing opposite me in the full–length mirror.
A soft knock on the door caught my attention. Turning my back to the mirror, my gaze dropped to the door just in time to see Grey step inside the room. My thoughts of him must have summoned him to come early. The sight of him made my heart skip a beat, and my pulse jittered. Swallowing hard, my gaze hungrily devoured him from head to toe. He looked irritatingly good, as though he hadn’t been to work. I, on the other hand, looked a bit stressed from reading and signing a battalion of paperwork. He was still wearing what he had on this morning. It must be my eyes playing tricks on me, but he looked way hotter
now, with the top button of his shirt unbuttoned and the sleeves rolled up. He wasn’t
wearing his coat now; instead, he was holding it in his hand.
He looked like a model standing there, waiting for the photographer to take the first shot. “Did I pass your standards?” he softly asked, pushing my wandering thoughts back to earth. My cheeks flushed with embarrassment at his remark. For a long moment, I was unable to say a word.
“You surpassed my expectations,” I finally replied, which immediately made a grin appear on his lips.

“I’m glad I did.” He then added, “You look stunning in that dress.” The words were spoken so softly, but they slammed into me with force. Did he just give me a compliment? I gaped at him in disbelief.
“Shall we go?” he cut through my thoughts.
I grabbed my handbag from the top of my table and made my way to the door. He offered his arm, and although I was embarrassed to take it, good manners won, and I reluctantly accepted the arm he offered. Something that resembled a smile mysteriously appeared on his lips.
“I hope your brothers won’t beat me up after our dinner date,” Grey said beside me as we made our way through the arched hallways.
“It depends on whether you’re going to be a good boy or not. That’s why I’m warning you now that my brothers will beat the hell out of you if you don’t treat me well.”
“They surely will.” He let out a resigned sigh. “I’ll treat you well,” he promised.
Everyone’s eyes followed us until we reached the grand staircase that connected to the lobby. Instantly, everyone at the bottom raised their heads to look at us. Even after we reached the bottom of the stairs, gazes followed us until we reached the upscale door.
Grey could attract attention easily, like how honey attracts bees. I thought to myself while quietly aware of the admiring glances thrown in his direction.
He opened the door for me, and I clambered inside the car. Closing the door, he turned to
the other side and took the driver’s seat. The engine roared to life as he maneuvered the car
onto the highway. Behind us, two cars belonging to my bodyguards followed.
“Have you received another email today?” he asked.
That finally caught my attention. My eyes instantly went to him, but he didn’t look at me. His eyes were fixed on driving.
“I didn’t… Have you received another email?” I asked.

I held my breath as I waited for his reply.
“I did,” he finally said.
“What’s the email about? Did the sender say something? Was there another picture?” I threw him a barrage of questions, unable to contain my curiosity any longer.
Instead of replying, Grey handed me his phone to see it for myself.
There was nothing attached to the email, no message, just a picture of a little boy who looked so much like our son.
“He looks like Dylan,” I whispered as I choked back a sob.
“He doesn’t only look like him, but he also has Dylan’s birthmark on his left eye.” Grey’s voice cracked as he spoke. Clearing his throat, he continued, “If Dylan hadn’t died in the accident, I would believe that he was that boy.”
Silence lapsed inside the car. I knew he wanted to say something more but was scared to say it out loud, but I was able to read his thoughts. I knew he was thinking that if Dylan had survived the accident, he would look like the boy in the picture.
“Why do you think someone would send us this picture?”
