Chapter 136: Something doesn’t feel right

It was in the morning, when Brent and Kellen were still in the gym that they received the message. Kellen hadn’t been expecting anything, especially from Pamela.

After the whole debacle with the press, Pamela had been busy around the Guild tower like everyone else, while also quietly threatening Kellen to stay in line. He’d often find cryptic, hand written notes in his office, or at the obstacle course room, or Guide gym. He had no idea how they got there, but she managed to do it. And she had great handwriting too.

But, this message was meant for both of them, and was sent out over text. In fact, it appeared that it was sent out to all of the new recruits, Kellen and Brent included. It was calling for a meeting with all of the newer members, and it got Kellen’s heart racing. Had they missed out on something? Was something wrong?

Needless to say, Kellen and Brent were anxious as they made their way towards the meeting room, which was in a part of the tower that both Kellen and Brent had probably only toured once. It was on the lower levels, and the rooms were huge, with the hallways sparse of doors. Kellen was worried, while Brent seemed to be whistling as they walked down the hallway, trying to find the room that the meeting was in.

When Kellen opened the door, shock washed over him, and an Esper, Esper Blake, the nice redheaded lady who had helped him out a few times, smiled, and yanked both of them up and away from the door so they couldn’t escape.

The reason why?

The room was a full on shoot room. As in, photo shoots. Big lights, cameras, several working professionals. Including Izzy, who had their own little station. There were a few change rooms in the darkness away from the brightly lit up wall of white, and lots of people milling around.

The Captain was also here, along with Hill who had set up a folding table for herself, and was working away with headphones on. Clearly, whatever was about to happen was too interesting for her not to be here.

Kellen spotted Pamela around the same time that she noticed Esper Blake was carrying the two Field Guides. Pamela gave them both a smile. Her eyes sparkled pink, her hair was done in her classes two braid style, and she held a clipboard in her hands. A sense of unease filled him.

The two Guides were put on their feet, with a wink and smile from Esper Blake who went back to her spot near the front doors, and Pamela motioned for everyone else to form around her. Kellen caught a glimpse of Gwen, but that was it.

"Welcome everyone. I’m sure some of you know why you are here, and to those of you who don’t know why, do you even pay attention to the Saturn Guild?" A light went off in Kellen’s mind, and dawning horror filled his body. His expression must have changed, because Pamela’s grin became wicked. "Ah, I see some of you are cluing in. That’s right, it’s time to shoot our new recruit charity calendar!" She exclaimed and Brent gave Kellen a confused look.

"A calendar?" He repeated, more to Kellen, but Pamela answered.

"That’s right! Every year we do a calendar of our new recruits, usually the more high profile ones, and sell calendars for charity. We also create some posters and cards for publicity reasons, and today I’ve cleared everyone’s schedule to shoot!" Brent and Kellen, unaware of it, folded their arms and frowned at the exact same time.

"Pamela, we had a full-" Her glowing, pink eyes had Kellen cut himself off and he shut his mouth.

"Don’t worry, we have some of the A Class Epers running them through the workout program you had prepared for them. They aren’t going to miss a day without you two there, and it will probably benefit them to have some Esper teachers as well." She glanced around the room, at the excited Espers, and the less than enthused Guides. "Now, the others don’t need to, but Guide Woods and Guide Jameson, I need you to go grab both of your uniforms. The Guild and Field Guide ones. If you aren’t back in 15 minutes I will send someone to go find you." The threat was heard and received.

Kellen heard Gwen chattering with the others, and when he glanced over at her, her expression was full of excitement. He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. This was going to be painful.
