Aleena looked at him in astonishment.
What had she just heard?
He said he would change?
“Are you crazy?” Said Aleena.
Suddenly she felt less afraid of him. She wondered if she hadn’t cared about everything or she felt relieved since he had done nothing in the past few days
“I'm not crazy, I'm just...” Spencer clumsily tried to explain, but found he didn't know how.
How should he explain that? Would he say that he knew the truth about the past so he would treat her right?
Spencer was silent for a long time under her eyes.
“From what I have known of you these years, you ought to pay me back now.” said Aleena. “What are you planning?”
“Aleena, I... I just know the truth.” Spencer said, “I'm not planning anything. I finally know you were misunderstood... I believe you.”
“Oh, you know it.” Aleena did not have mood fluctuations but said faintly, “So what? And you believe me? Do you think it works now? It's like breaking a plate and putting it back together and saying it's back to normal, it is ridiculous.”
Spencer smiled wryly. “I know, I just... I will be good to you and I will trust you in the future.”
“There is no future.” Aleena said, “Shall you let me go, or shall you let me die? Pick one. Whatever happens, I won't be with you.”
Spencer looked at her calm eyes feeling hurt in heart.
He knew he couldn't be forgiven so easily for what he had done, but he still felt terrible when he saw her like this.
But what right did he have to be sad?
He had done things terrible to her before, but she had persevered, even though he had hurt her that much.
He took a deep breath and tried to smile. “I don't want to choose either of them.”
Aleena looked at him sullenly and did not speak.
Spencer stood up and said, “Eat breakfast. I'll show you my perseverance. I will.”
Aleena looked at his eyes and was absentminded.
She shouldn't be moved.
But at the sight of his gentle appearance, her heart moved slightly.
But she was different now. Her heart would not soften because he was gentle, and she would not forget all his mistakes or loved him as if nothing happened.
Aleena drooped her eyes.
She would see if her heart was strong enough that she would not give it to him and see how long he could hold on.
