Preston sounded infuriated. “Mr. Russell, this woman wants to cuckold you!”

Dexter remained indifferent as he watered the plants in his study. “Preston, the tone of your words seems to imply you've already accepted her.”

Preston refused to admit it.

“I just can't stand her audacity. I used to think she was straightforward and bold, but I didn't expect her to misunderstand you like this and fool around with others...”

Dexter shot Preston a warning look, and the latter fell silent.

“She's just been a bit reckless. It's not that she misunderstood me; it's that I haven't done well enough.”

“It's not...” In disbelief, Preston couldn't finish his words as the red landline in the study rang. Dexter raised his hand, and Preston had to answer it.

After the person at the other end of the line said something, Preston was surprised. “Coming to Wavery? But we're not prepared for anything.”

Dexter tilted his head slightly. He immediately understood and put the call on speaker.

A businesslike voice came from the phone. “The order just came from the higher-ups. It's just an inspection so, don't alert anyone. We've shown sincerity to Mr. Russell, and he should reciprocate.”

The call was ended, leaving no room for negotiation.

Preston frowned. “Salazar is personally coming to Wavery. Didn't we agree to send him over?”

“Mrs. Zastrow's family has been in politics for three generations, and there are too many spies on the way. He's afraid of being exposed, so he came to us for cover.” Dexter finished watering the plants, “Make the arrangements. Tell Selena to get ready.”

Preston left, and the room was quiet. As Dexter turned, his peripheral vision fell on the stack of photos. The photographer was quite cunning, capturing Josie and Morgan in a particularly ambiguous posture.
