Charlotte had stopped eating upon hearing her words.
Victoria’s voice rang again, “That night was the most depressed and painful night in Lance’s life.”
Her eyes were set on the wisteria and roses which had crept along the wall in the courtyard, and her son’s bearing on that night five years ago had suddenly materialized before her eyes again.
“When you had called him that night and promised to elope with him, he was on cloud nine that he had even skipped his meal, and all he did was only urging me to pack overnight so that we could leave City B together.”
“In actual fact, someone from the Harris family had come over three days before your call as they had wanted to bring him back. He is the bloodline of the Harris family; hence he naturally possesses the secret of the Harris family. The reason that they had come for him was because he had to return to his place when he turned twenty-three in order to safeguard that secret.”
Charlotte’s brows were slightly knitted as she had recalled that Lawrence did inform her that he wished to divulge his secret to her after they had eloped together during their call on that fateful night.
Unfortunately, she did not have the chance to be able to hear from him anymore.
“That night, Lance had told me that he wanted to let you in on his secret which was not to be revealed to anyone before he left City B as he wanted you to make the call of whether both of you should go back to the Harris family together or live your own life outside.”
“He had already decided that he would renounce his rights of inheritance in the Harris family in order to protect you if you were to return to the Harris family with him, and if you ever chose to run away with him, he would be willing to shoulder the consequences of not being able to safeguard that secret for the Harris family as well. However, you…”
Victoria turned her head back and cast a glance towards Charlotte as she continued, “I still remembered that he had come back in a drenched state that night looking extremely undone and disheartened, and he told me that he had been dumped by you. He sat on these steps at that time and drank his sorrows away bottle by bottle, falling asleep when he was drunk and continued drinking when he came to. I just let him be as I knew how devastated he was at heart.”
