Chapter 160
The return trip was scheduled for two days later. Ivan and the Mendeley family went to see Kirk and Caroline off.
Only Ivan and Bryan were sincerely saddened by their departure. Adam and Lia had only shown up because they were family friends.
“Caroline.” Bryan pulled her aside. “Avery has a gift for you, but she wanted me to give it to you in private. I’m not supposed to let Kirk know about it.”
Caroline had noticed Avery’s absence, but she’d chosen not to question it.
Now that Bryan brought up the topic, she couldn’t help but ask, “Why didn’t she give it to me
herself?”
Bryan scratched his head. “I asked. She said she couldn’t show up in front of you. I don’t know
what that means. Anyway…”
He handed Caroline an exquisite gift. “I’ve completed my mission.”
Caroline weighed the gift in her hands. It was rather heavy. She wondered what was inside, but
she believed it wouldn’t be anything good.
“Caroline.” Bryan was blushing. “When will you be back again?”
She replied, “I don’t know either. I’ll visit when I have the time. If you’re free, come and visit me at
Easton.”
“Oh, can I? Sure, you must see me if I ever go to Easton.”
Kirk frowned at the sight of the two chatting and smiling. Ever since their last WhatsApp
message, he hadn’t spoken to Caroline.
He gave Charles a look. Charles took the hint and went up to Caroline. “Mrs. Morrison, it’s time to
board the flight.”
She checked the time. “But there’s an hour left.”
Charles chuckled dryly. “Why not wait for takeoff in the first–class area then? We’ve spent a
fortune on it. Might as well enjoy it.”
She was convinced by his persuasion. After chatting with Bryan and saying goodbye to Ivan, she
Kirk stared at her with a helpless smile and followed her toward the gate.
They flew home to Osbury without speaking to each other and landed at 3 am.
Since they had first–class seats, the experience was smooth. Caroline felt like time had flown by when they finally left the plane, Only Kirk’s presence dampened the mood.
She was about to take her luggage, but Charles acted fast. “Mrs. Morrison, leave that to me.
Seeing that he had picked up Kirk’s luggage, she replied, “It’s okay. I can do it myself.”
Right after that, Kirk showed up in front of her and dragged her luggage with him. His slender figure and the pink luggage in his hand looked like a comical combination.
She fell silent and looked away, but she followed behind him.
After walking for a while, she noticed that they weren’t headed toward the airport exit. Still
refusing to speak to Kirk, she turned to Charles. “Where are we going?”
Charles flashed a mysterious smile. “Just follow Mr. Morrison.”
She had no choice but to do so. A while later, she realized that they might be taking a private lane. She wanted to ask questions, but Charles had gone up to Kirk and opened a door for him.
It was a different world out there–a place so quiet that it seemed to be separate from the rest of
the world. A black Mercedes–Benz was parked near the exit.
Charles placed the luggage in the trunk and opened the door at the back. “Please.”
Caroline checked out the interior of the car and was about to get into the front passenger seat. However, Kirk grabbed her wrist, making her fall into his arms.
With his hand on her waist, Kirk was very tempted. He sucked on her lips. She tasted lovely, like a juicy fruit
Ouch!
He tasted a metallic scent in his mouth. Squinting, he slowly sat up and wiped his lips
It wasn’t until Caroline saw the red stain on his lips that she realized what she had done.
She cowered in the corner of the car like a fearful rabbit. Her lashes trembled.
He glanced at her. “You’re a coward. Why did you bite me then?”
