The assistant was nervous as he asked, “Sir, what does Caroline Evans mean by this?”

Liam’s eyebrows furrowed. He didn’t know either. He had never interacted much with Caroline before.

He only knew that she was a brainless sort of woman. Jude Morrison had always been supportive of her becoming Eddy’s wife, but she had given up on that opportunity.

After some thought, Liam made a call to Layla and waved his assistant off.

The assistant quickly went outside.

Layla answered just as the door closed. “Your guess was right, Ms. Evans, Caroline Evans indeed came to see me.”

Layla was currently playing cards. When she heard this, she smiled in satisfaction. “I see. What did she say?” 

“She said she would acquire my company within half a year and pay more than the market price.”

Layla burst into laughter, causing her friends to look up and ask, “What, are you going to win?”

Layla snickered. “No, I just heard a very funny joke.”

As she said this, she got someone to take her place in the game and walked to the living room.

“Were you swayed?” Layla asked Liam.

Sycophantically, Liam said, “Indeed, but it’s just a shame…*

“What’s a shame?”

“No.”

“Liar. It has to be Mr. Eddy.” One of the women looked at Layla in admiration.

She said, “Layla, once you become Evans Group’s CEO, you’ll marry into the Morrison family soon after. I admire you so much! Your career and love life are both great.”

“Yeah, and you’re marrying Mr. Eddy too. Oh, I’m so envious!”

“And the most frustrating thing is that Mr. Eddy is so dedicated to Layla alone.”

The woman sitting next to Layla played a card. “For Layla, he even went against Mr. Morrison Senior’s orders. That’s powerful love right there. I’m so jealous!”

They all laughed.
