Chapter 23
On Saturday, it was Johnson’s birthday. Naomi had to work until late that day.
She was just about to leave her client’s office to go home and change her clothes when she received a call from Jason.
She could see Brendan’s car by the roadside when she went downstairs.
When she had been admitted to the hospital a few days ago, they had fought after Heather had told Brendan about the check. Since then, their relationship had gotten better.
After opening the car door, Naomi raised her eyebrows and praised, “You look great today.”
“I always look great,”
Brendan answered.
“You have no sense of shame,” Naomi said, smiling.
When Brendan and Naomi arrived at the hotel around six o’clock, the other guests had already arrived
Naomi and Brendan greeted and congratulated Johnson. After that, Brendan stayed by Naomi’s side.
Christine’s eyes turned red. She was touched to see them being so close in public for the first time after being married for two years.
She felt like Naomi was finally living a happy life.
When Naomi and Brendan appeared together, it immediately sparked a lot of discussion
Everyone was curious and secretly asked each other a few questions. But they didn’t discuss it excessively since it was Johnson’s birthday celebration. They were all in the same circle. Naomi knew the same people that Brendan knew, so she could easily talk to everyone.
After Brendan and Naomi finished greeting a group of elders, Madelyn suddenly rushed out from behind them and put her arms around Brendan’s arm. “Brendan, I didn’t know you were already here! I’ve been waiting for you at the door for a long time.”
Feeling Madelyn’s excitement, Brendan’s face darkened. He lifted his other hand and dusted off the arm that Madelyn had held.
Right after that, Madelyn put her arms around Brendan’s arm again and complained angrily, “Brendan, Naomi is so ungrateful and despicable. Not only did she hit someone in the bar last time, but she had also called the police before the other person even got to complain.
Madelyn was scared and hid behind Brendan, “Brendan, look how fierce she is. If you don’t divorce her, she might abuse you one day.”
Madelyn’s words hit Brendan’s sore spot.
He had been domestically abused a long time ago and had even gone to the hospital for it
