Brendan looked up. Everyone’s eyes were on him, awaiting his answer.

It seemed like if he didn’t agree, he wouldn’t be leaving here today.

With his hands in his pockets, Brendan stared at Naomi. After gazing at her for a long while, he said expressionlessly, “Of course I do.”

Naomi couldn’t help but smile dismissively at Brendan’s last–minute compromise as if to say, “I thought you were tougher than that.”

In reality, he hadn’t paid any attention to the pressure from Heather, Jackson, and the others. He would answer according to his mood, regardless of the pressure from the rest.

“Brendan, you’ve said it yourself. We’ll all be looking forward to your celebration banquet next year when you become a father.”

“Yes, you’re not getting any younger. It’s time to settle down.”

With each person’s comment, Brendan took his right hand out of his pocket and placed it on the back of Naomi’s neck, saying in a calm voice, “Let’s go and complete the mission.”

Naomi looked up. With her neck still firmly held by Brendan, he walked outside into the courtyard with her.

“So, there are times when you’re afraid too, Brendan.”

Naomi removed his hand, turned around, and shouted toward the house, “Mom…”
