Breaking Free, Loving Again -The Flash Marriage with Mr. CEO novel Chapter 596

Chapter 596: Her past was surfacing as a mystery.

Arwen’s fingers slowly moved over her phone screen as she scrolled through the report compiled about her. "How is this possible?" she muttered under her breath.

"Ma’am, even I am confused why it turned out like this," Mia’s voice came through her AirPods. "The investigator said he tried his best to dig deeper into your past, but he couldn’t find much. Especially the information about the three years you spent in your former high school. According to him ..."

She paused, her voice tapering off as if unsure whether to continue.

"What did he say?" Arwen asked, her brows knitting together, catching the hesitation.

"According to him ... someone seemed to have deliberately tampered with your records. Someone has tried to —"

"Erase them," Arwen finished for her, her voice flat but sharp. The moment she saw the redacted data and inconsistencies; the idea had already taken root in her mind.

Mia went silent for a moment. It was as if she were trying to wrap her head around the possibility. But no matter how she thought about it, she couldn’t come up with any reasonable explanation.

"But ma’am ... why would someone try to erase your past? Every important detail about you is still publicly available. Your family, your achievements, your ties with Davies Group —none of that’s been touched."

Arwen stayed silent, her eyes still fixed on the screen. She could feel her pulse rise beneath her skin.

People erase traces of the past for only a few reasons:

To bury an identity.

To hide something shameful.

Or to ... to protect a truth too dangerous to reveal.

But none of that made sense. She had always lived her life in the open. As the Quinn heiress, her life was well documented. What could possibly be hidden in a small part of her high school life that someone would go to such lengths to erase?

The more Arwen thought about it, the more her expression turned graver. She was only snapped out of her thoughts when she heard Mia’s voice on the other end of the call.

"Ma’am, are you still there?"

Arwen hummed in response. After that, she shifted a little in her posture and spoke through the call. "Wire the payment to the investigator and thank him."

"Ma’am, you won’t ask him to try more?" Mia asked, and from her voice, one could imagine her brows tugged in a serious consideration.

However, Arwen was clear.

"He already tried his best," she said, continuing, "The details he wasn’t able to find out would be only difficult for him to find even if we ask him to try again. So, there is no need. End the deal with him. As for the rest ..." she paused, her tone dipping a dip deeper. "I will look for the answers on my own."

With that said, she hung up.

Her gaze went back to look at her phone, turning serious. All her life, she felt like her life was an open book. But only now did she realize that there were many things that she was unaware of about herself.

She had always thought the memories she had no remembrance of were irrelevant, and hence, she had forgotten them.

But that was not true. Reading the diary made her understand that she might have lost the remembrance of the people and memories that she had promised herself to remember forever.

And now this ...
