His action was so meteoric that she didn’t get the time to react. She only got the time and chance to register it when he finally pulled away.

She was left breathless, chasing for oxygen.

"You —"

"I saved your effort," he said, carrying all the righteousness in his tone. "I took the bribe, and now that I have received it, I can wait at home for a few hours, until you return."

He repeated her exact words, leaving her dumbfoundedly speechless. She wanted to chide him, but how could she?

Wasn’t she the one to put the bribe to be legit just yesterday?

She opened her mouth to speak something, but then closed it, not finding the right words to condemn him. In the end, she just stood up and turned to look at him. "You are too crafty?"

He raised his brow, and she narrowed her gaze at him.

"I will definitely get back at you for this."

And with that, she turned and stomped her way out. She paused at the door and turned to look back at him, only to find him watching her.

"You took the bribe already, so make you abide by the rules. Have your meals on time and then rest. Don’t work the whole time I am out," she said, and then left.

Aiden watched her and then shook his head. A small chuckle escaped his lips.

But his expression shifted when his gaze dropped to the diary that was kept on the side. He had long learned to control his urges, yet seeing it right in front of his eyes, he felt his control snapping.

What could be so interesting in it that she sat in the middle of the night to read it?

His hands subconsciously reached out, brushing over the leathered texture of the cover.

But just when he would have pulled it, he held himself back. His brows furrowed in a frown, and he pulled his hand away, restraining himself once again.

"You can’t break your word to her," he muttered to himself before focusing back on the document file he had been studying before.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Arwen had already left home in the car.

She had given the address to Alfred, and he was driving the way there while she sat back, pondering over several things.

Although she was much clearer about things than before, she was still confused about many things.

Like, the memory loss.

If she suffered an amnesia, it should be mentioned in her medical reports. But she had read her files, not even in one had she seen it written. And that was something that was confusing her more and more.

Even when she felt she was missing some of her memories, everyone around her made her believe that it was normal for kids to forget a thing here and there.
