Seeing Rita's mood lighten up, Ines went for it again, "Though today's wedding ceremony was a total mess, they've got their marriage license. They're legally husband and wife now, you wouldn't want them to get divorced right after their wedding, would you?"
Rita's face changed slightly, "I hadn't thought about it that way." She knew very well how much her son loved that woman. Even in anger, she hadn't thought about them getting a divorce.
"Well, that's good. So why don't you see her now? When she saw you faint, she ran to the hospital in her wedding dress. I noticed her looking uncomfortable several times, but she stayed with me and Ethan the whole time. She even took off her shoes and carried them in her hand. It just shows, she's actually pretty worried about you.” Ines said.
"Can she not worry about me? If anything happened to me, she and Jeffery would definitely fall apart." Rita didn't have to think twice to know Joy's mindset. What Joy was worried about was not being able to be with Jeffery.
"You see it very clearly. So for Jeffery's happiness, you should take better care of yourself." Ines said. Rita prodded Ines's forehead lightly, somewhat helplessly, "Izzy, where did you learn to talk like this? I feel like I hardly recognize you after you got married. You didn't use to talk this much."
Ines laughed. She didn't know where she'd picked it up either. Maybe from Ethan's mother, or Ethan himself. They both liked to make sense of things, always leaving her speechless. "Don't worry about where I learned it. Just tell me if you think I'm right." Ines said.
Rita didn't respond. She felt that Ines made sense. But she just didn't want to face Joy. Every time she saw her, she would remember her deceit, remember how she had fooled them all.
Understanding the rationale didn't mean she could follow it. Zander let out a sigh and said to Rita, "Rita, Izzy makes a lot of sense. We've been too hard on her. We didn't really treat her like family. No matter what, she's married to Jeffery now. She's part of the family, and we can't keep avoiding her. We should at least listen to her side of the story and give her a chance."
"You're quite broad-minded." Rita gave Zander a glance, her tone a bit cold.
"What's done is done. We can't avoid it. Staying mad won't help either. And it's Jeffery who's going to spend the rest of his life with her. If Jeffery doesn't mind, whatever we say is pointless. I don't want to be the one to ruin their relationship. We had the same experience when we were young, and that wasn't comfortable." Zander said and a gentle smile appeared on his face.
He was definitely angry, but since Jeffery was already married, they couldn't just make them divorce immediately.
"Alright, I'll listen to you two. You're making me out to be some sort of villain while you two are the good guys." Rita looked at Zander and Ines with some discontent.
"We didn't mean it that way. You're an open-minded person, you wouldn't hold grudges over small things." Ines cozied up to Rita by hugging her arm. Rita was still angry, about to shake Ines off. But she then remembered that she was pregnant and could only helplessly tweak her ear, "You little traitor, ganging up with others against your own family. That's too much!"
Ines laughed, "Don't worry. Although I said that, I'm always on your side in my heart."
