Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 340

Ashley and Ines picked a spot that was hard to miss; Ethan could spot them in a heartbeat – something Jacob had specifically stated beforehand.

Sitting back, Ines felt a wave of relaxation washing over her. Taking a glance at Ines, Ashley asked with a grin, “You aren't quite used to this kinda occasion, are ya?”

“Yeah, I’m feeling a bit out of place. I find it hard to make sense of people’s actions and words here, and I don’t really wanna get into what they mean.”

“Don’t sweat it. Ethan is a businessman after all; he doesn’t mingle with these folks often. This is just because the Meyer family sticks together through thick and thin; that’s why he’s caught up in all this.”

Ines was aware of this. The Meyer family was known for sticking together.

“But when it comes to playing mind games, my dad and Ethan are an unbeatable team. This is just a temporary situation, don’t worry. This won’t drag on for too long,” Ashley assured, looking unconcerned.

“You seem pretty chill.”

“That’s because I’ve been tagging along with my dad to these shindigs since I was a kid, I can handle myself here. It’s nothing new.”

“No wonder you’re so insightful and always on the ball. It’s all those good genes and intentional nurturing,” Ines laughed. Ashley’s upbringing was a far cry from those clueless folks out there.

Despite being eight years younger, no one could tell the age difference between Ashley and Ines from their demeanor. Only upon close inspection could one see that her face was indeed youthful and more vibrant, different from those nearing their thirties.

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” Ashley laughed, then took off a diamond necklace from her neck and handed it to Ines. “This is a gift for you.”

“What is this?” “I promised you a voice recording hair clip awhile back, but I noticed you’re not into hair clips or showing off, so I switched it up to a necklace. I bought it myself and got a bunch of people to help out, even got professionals from the military to customize it. It’ll do the trick. But I used my grandpa’s name, so he’d probably chew me out if he found out.”

Ines was a bit taken aback. She thought Ashley was joking back then, but she actually did it, even taking into account her preferences and switched to a necklace.

“Isn’t this a bit too expensive?”

“Don’t worry about it. Consider it a belated birthday gift from me. Last time, I was in a hurry and got you something simple, so now I’m giving you a fancier gift. If you’re still feeling guilty, just prepare more gifts for me when I get married. After all, my dad is pretty frugal, and he’s got no money. Now the rich ones in the Meyer family are you and Ethan. Just consider it as me buying you off in advance. You’ll have to repay me double in the future,” Ashley explained with a laugh.

“You’re something else, talking about getting married while you're still in college,” Ines lightly poked Ashley’s forehead.

“I’m of legal age to get married. As long as I find the right person, I don’t see a problem with getting married right after I graduate. Start preparing some wedding gifts for me. I’ll be the envy of everyone,” Ashley shrugged nonchalantly.
