Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 433

Ines chuckled and held her hand, fixing her gaze on Phoebe, “Don’t get too excited. I’m not trying to mention your private secrets. It’s just that some connections are truly meant to be.”

Upon hearing this, Phoebe glanced at Noel who returned her a charming smile. Seeing the flirtatious exchange, Ines knew they were destined for each other. A smile curled up at the corner of her mouth, “You see, there’s nothing more for me to say.”

“Indeed, matchmaker Ines, you finally managed to sell your forever-single bestie,” Phoebe playfully retorted.

Ines stretched out her hand towards Phoebe, “Does that mean I can get a thank-you gift?”

“You money grubber, you’ll get yours,” Phoebe shot back, playfully rolling her eyes at Ines.

Noel clapped Ethan on the shoulder. “We’ve all finally come through.”

Phoebe wanted to chat with Ines a bit more, but Noel noticed Ethan’s increasingly sour expression. He understood his friend’s temperament, so he quickly whisked Phoebe away.

Camela and Moria remained in the small bedroom, only coming out when necessary.

Once they were alone in the room, Ethan finally let a smile creep onto his face, “They’re finally gone.”

Ines couldn’t help but laugh at his relief.

Ethan called the doctor back for a thorough check on Ines. She was mostly fine, but to be on the safe side, the doctor suggested a few more days of hospital observation.

Ethan relayed the news back to the Meyer family, but forbade them to visit. They all understood his sentiment, so they simply gave Ines a call.

Now that Ines was awake and recovering well, the hospital removed all the monitoring devices. That night, Ethan and Ines shared a bed. He hugged her from behind. The sense of contentment made them both sigh in satisfaction. They simply held each other in silence, savoring the tranquility of the moment.

After a while, Ethan whispered into her ear, “Izzy, I’m sorry. I wasn’t there for you when you needed me most.”

Ines pressed her lips together, gripping Ethan’s hand tightly. “Ethan, do you know what I was thinking when I crashed into that guardrail?”

“What?”

Ines paused, and then solemnly said, “I was thinking... Thank God, you weren’t with me. Thank God, we were having a cold war.” If they had both been in the accident, it would have been a disaster. And their two children would have been devastated. Moreover, if Ethan had been there, he would have done everything in his power to protect her, probably getting seriously injured in the process.

If their roles had been reversed, she wouldn’t have been able to bear to see Ethan unconscious in a hospital bed. She hated to admit it, but she was relieved it was her and not him.

In the darkness, Ines couldn’t see the tears welling up in Ethan’s eyes. He wasn’t happy with her thinking, “Izzy, don’t ever think like that again. I’m your husband. It’s my job to protect you. I don’t want to see you hurt, just like you don’t want to see me hurt.”

Ines changed the subject, “Ethan, I was scared at the time, but not because of the crash. I was scared I wouldn’t see you again. You know what? You are the perfect man who I fought so hard to find. I’m not ready to let go of you.”

“Izzy, I’m not perfect. I’ve done a lot of things that hurt you.”
