Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 435

Just as Ines was about to say something, she felt a warm fluid was trickling down her lower body. In panic, she remembered a recent conversation with her friend Phoebe, who had told her about experiencing her first period. It was a sign of officially marking her transition into womanhood.

She was experiencing a similar pain in her abdomen now. The discomfort was very similar to what Phoebe had described to her, leading her to believe that she was having her first period.

At this revelation, Ines’ face turned crimson. Her heart pounded with anxiety, and her voice trembled as she spoke, “Hey... well, could you put me down? I can walk by myself.” She was mortified to think she might stain his clothes.

He stopped in his tracks, not understanding what was happening. He asked her with concern, “Your voice sounds strange. Are you still in pain? Should I take you to the hospital before we go find your mother?”

“No, no need…” Ines quickly dismissed his suggestion. People could laugh at her if she went to a hospital because of a period.

“Alright, but don’t be stubborn. I promised to help you find your mother, and I intend to keep my word.”

“Oh my God, I’m not the stubborn one here. You are!” Ines thought desperately, trying to figure out how to convince him to let her down without revealing her predicament.

Perhaps due to the stress, a fresh wave of warmth seeped through her lower body. It was the peak of summer, so she was wearing a light evening dress. It was ill-equipped for such circumstances. In no time, she felt the dampness seep into his clothes, which caused her anxiety to intensify.

This was a difficult situation for any girl experiencing her first period, let alone when in the company of a boy she hardly knew.

Worried, Ines fidgeted restlessly.

“Are you in less pain now? Why are you moving around so much?” He seemed to notice something was off with her.

“No, it’s still very painful. That’s why I’m moving,” Ines quickly denied his assumption.

The lights along the road were dim. As they reached a brighter spot, Ines straightened up a bit and saw a bright red stain on his white shirt. She knew immediately that it was her fault.

She felt she was really unlucky tonight to have gotten into such a big trouble.

“Can you stop moving around?” The boy reminded her. Ines suddenly had a good idea. She tried to regain her composure, and pretended to feel guilty. “Sorry, I think I got a nosebleed and it must’ve stained your shirt. I’m really sorry. When we see my mom, you can give me your shirt? I’ll wash it and return it to you.”

He stiffened slightly at her words. His tone was growing serious, “You don’t have to. I can wash it myself.”

Not wanting to take no for an answer, Ines insisted on taking his shirt to clean. When they had reached a taxi stand, he placed Ines in a cab. At first, he thought of leaving but then decided to sit next to her. He handed her his shirt, “It’s a bit chilly outside. You can wear this for the time being and return it whenever you get a chance.”

Ines, already overwhelmed, accepted his shirt and draped it over herself. It was long enough to sit on, providing a much-needed relief.
