Ines wasn’t sure how much Noel knew about Phoebe’s first love. To avoid any unnecessary tension between them, she gave him a brief overview.
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone. “Why didn’t Phoebe tell me herself?”
“Noel, I’m not sure how much you know about this, but I hope you can consider Phoebe’s feelings. Right now, the person she least wants to face is you. How could she call you and tell you about this? I’ll leave it at that. You decide what you want to do. You’re Ethan’s best buddy, so I’m willing to give you a heads up. Phoebe can be pretty stubborn. If you let her go, you won’t have another chance with her.”
Likewise, that man had chosen to leave without a word, so it meant that, for whatever reason, there was no possibility of reconciliation between him and Phoebe.
Ines knew Phoebe well; she was the kind of woman who would never look back. Her temporary confusion didn’t mean that she still had feelings for her ex-boyfriend. That was why Ines was willing to give him a hint. One was her old friend, and the other was Ethan’s best buddy. She really wouldn’t know who to side with.
“I think you’re overthinking. This is the first time I’ve really pursued a woman. How can I let go now? When Phoebe sends the information to you later, could you forward it to me? I know quite a few people who might be able to help.”
Noel’s voice was calm, so Ines couldn’t quite gauge his true feelings. But his willingness to offer help brought a smile to her face. “Sure, I’ll forward it to you as soon as I get it. I’ll also send you Phoebe’s address. If you want to see her, just go. She needs you right now. Don’t waste this opportunity.”
“Thanks for the reminder.”
After hanging up, Ines didn’t look too well. Recently, things hadn’t been going too smoothly for her and her close ones.
Not long after, Phoebe sent the relevant information to her email. Ines forwarded it to both Noel and Ethan, and also called Silas to ask him to keep an eye out.
Ethan would call her at noon, which was a norm between them. She had been waiting for his call because she had something to talk to him about Phoebe, but it never came.
Ines felt a sense of panic. She tried calling him several times, but no one picked up. Lucas was also unreachable.
This was unlike Ethan. If he received her message, he would call her back as soon as possible. Remembering what he had said a few days ago, Ines had a feeling that something had happened. She couldn’t sit still and decided to go downstairs after changing her clothes. Seeing her flustered state, Phillip couldn’t help but ask, “Izzy, what’s wrong? You look terrible.”
“Ethan always calls me at noon, but he hasn’t called today. I tried calling him, but it’s not going through. I want to go to the Meyer Group to see if anything has happened.”
Phillip furrowed his brows and gestured for Ines to come over. “Izzy, don’t panic. Let’s wait at home and try calling him again later. Don’t lose your control.”
Ines nodded and sat down next to him. “I think something has really happened.”
Phillip gently patted her back and looked at her seriously. “Izzy, I think by now you understand that Ethan is most worried about you. He can only handle things properly when he knows you’re safe. No matter what he faces, you have to believe that he can handle it. He’s not just a husband, but also a father. He won’t let anything happen to himself.”
