Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 458

Ines squinted a little. “Ronin, I think I’ve fully grasped the gist of what you’re trying to say. I don’t think I’ve overstepped here. This whole issue is clearly about the Galeana Group’s flawed project. If the project had no issues, then there wouldn’t be any problem to solve, would there? Also, look at it from another perspective, if these issues were caused by others, then what’s wrong with Mr. Meyer trying to fix it?”

Ronin observed the woman in front of him. Her face was adorned with a soft smile. Her words were gentle and her demeanor was not intimidating but rather warm and friendly. However, there was a firmness to her that made him temporarily speechless. Ronin was about to reply, but Ines didn’t give him a chance. She stared at him. “Ronin, back to our earlier discussion. I want to report an abuse of power by certain departments that are interfering with the Galeana Group’s normal operation. What’s your procedure? Do I need to file a written complaint or can I do it orally? And what kind of evidence do I need to provide?”

“Ms. Galeana, let’s first clarify the previous matter. I will explain the complaint procedures to you in detail later.” Ronin forced a smile.

“Ronin, filing a complaint is every citizen’s right. I need to know the procedure now. Are you saying my complaint won’t be accepted?”

Caught off guard by her accusation, Ronin had to explain the complaint procedure to Ines in detail.

Ines revealed a satisfied smile. “Great. My complaint will certainly not be groundless. I will organize and collect the evidence. Then I will have it sent to you by this afternoon. I hope you start the investigation promptly.”

“Ms. Galeana, this issue will be dealt with accordingly. Let’s get back to our previous topic,” Ronin tried to steer the conversation back on track.

Ines nodded. “Sure, Ronin. Feel free to ask anything else. I’ll cooperate fully.”

Ronin paused, caught off guard by Ines’ interruption. He felt like Ines had already given the answer, but something seemed missing.

“Ms. Galeana, could you please explain this matter again?”

“Explain what? I thought I told you quite clearly. That’s the whole story.” Ines shrugged, seemingly confused about what else to explain.

Ronin was at his wit’s end. He had intended to only investigate Mr. Meyer’s case, but now he was also tangled with the issues of the housing and construction bureau. Wasn’t this creating unnecessary work for himself?

Jacob and Russel had been silently competing for years, and everyone in their circles knew it. The situation was still unclear, and they, the middlemen, found it troublesome. However, this case was assigned from above, so he had no choice but to do it in order to fulfill his duty.

Weighing his options, Ronin finally spoke up, “Ms. Galeana...”

Ines smiled. “Ronin, everything I said earlier is true. As for what exactly happened in your circle, no one will tell me. It’s possible that someone helped Jacob out to win his favor. I don’t want to put you in a difficult position. I think you can complete your task by reporting what I told you today.”

Ronin stared at Ines for a few seconds. Sensing there was nothing more he could ask, he finally conceded, “Alright, I apologize for disturbing you today, Ms. Galeana. I will report this matter to my boss. If there’s anything else I need to know, I will come back. Sorry again for the inconvenience.”

“No worries, Ronin. It’s our civic duty to cooperate. If there are any more questions later, I’ll do my best to assist.”

After a brief handshake, Ines escorted Ronin to meet Blake, just as Silas brought him out.
