Burn the Marriage, Keep the Crown novel Chapter 24

Aaron took a sip of wine from his glass, savoring the rich taste before speaking, “Why are you so sure it isn’t because of Serena?”

“Because you should be the happiest now that Serena’s gone,” Frederick replied. Much like Aaron, he had striking features, but while Aaron’s were sharp and imposing, Frederick’s were softer and more approachable. His tone was matter-of-fact. “Weren’t you always the one who found Serena annoying?”

Aaron frowned. Had he ever really found Serena annoying?

Seeing the confusion in Aaron’s eyes, Frederick continued, “Every time we had a gathering and Serena called, you’d impatiently hang up on her.”

Aaron remembered, but it wasn’t out of impatience.

He simply didn’t want Serena to hear the crude jokes and banter at the table.

Frederick, noticing Aaron’s troubled expression, patted his shoulder reassuringly. “Don’t worry. Serena will be back in a few days.”

Hadn’t it always been that way before?

Serena could never really stay away from Aaron.

“She went back this time to marry William,” Aaron said, tilting his head back to take another sip of wine.

The bitter taste slid down his throat.

Frederick nearly bit his tongue in shock.

It took him a moment to find his voice. “You’re not joking with me, right?”

Aaron turned his head, his expression completely serious.

Frederick still felt like he was in some sort of surreal dream.

The idea of Serena, who had always been chasing after Aaron, actually going back to Northspire to get married was impossible!

Unbelievable!

It was as unlikely as him becoming the wealthiest man in Alderburg, surpassing Aaron!
