Burn the Marriage, Keep the Crown novel Chapter 26

"Samuel, has there been any progress on the stock division issue?" At this late hour, Serena could only think of this possibility.

Samuel had just taken off his shoes and, hearing Serena's familiar voice, sat down in the entryway. "No, not that. I was just thinking it's been a while since you returned to Northspire. How's everything going? Are you doing well?"

Serena and Samuel were college acquaintances, but after getting together with Aaron, Serena had distanced herself from others, including him. Her world revolved solely around Aaron. He was her center.

So, even though Samuel worked at her company after graduation, their conversations were strictly professional, rarely straying into personal territory. Casual chats like this were even rarer.

Serena was caught off guard, and after a brief pause, she replied with a bittersweet smile, "I'm doing well, thank you for asking, Samuel."

Samuel smiled softly.

After a moment, he broke the silence. "Someone called me today, saying there was an issue with a company under your name and that they needed to get in touch with you. I wanted to ask if you've received any strange calls recently."

Serena felt a pang of unease. "I did get a call about some issues with a company, but you know, I only have one company left in Alderburg, and that's L.S. Entertainment. If there's a problem with L.S. Entertainment, you would know better than I do, right?"

"So, could it be a scam?" Samuel pondered aloud. "But if it were a scam, how would they know so much about our relationship? They knew I was your senior from college and that I'm managing your company."

Serena furrowed her brow. "That... I'm not sure about..."

"This seems a bit odd. Do you want to come back and check things out?"

Serena refused without hesitation. "No, if he calls again, have him contact me directly."

There was no way she was returning to Alderburg.
