Burn the Marriage, Keep the Crown novel Chapter 3

"Alright."

Without a backward glance, Serena walked away.-

Watching her retreating figure, a sudden wave of unease swept through Aaron's heart.

But he quickly suppressed it.

Serena loved him so much; even if she was upset, it wasn't a big deal.

She could handle her emotions on her own.

That afternoon, Serena received a bank notification: Aaron had transferred money to her account.

A cool million dollars.

Twice what she had originally paid for her house.

Aaron might have his flaws, but stinginess wasn't one of them.

Following the money, a text from Aaron arrived:

"I'll pick you up tomorrow."

It wasn't a suggestion; it was a statement.

It was always like this.

Just one sentence, no explanation of where they would go or who they'd meet.

As if speaking one more word to her would cost him dearly.

Serena didn't dwell on the text; she tossed her phone aside and continued preparing her things.

The next morning at ten sharp, Aaron's car was parked outside her building.

He seemed surprised to find her living in her own villa instead of Rosewood Gardens.

"Didn't you live at Rosewood Gardens?" he asked, referring to his estate.

Serena had only moved into Rosewood Gardens in the third year of their relationship, granted the privilege at last.

It was said that the very first night Aaron met Cynthia Lynwood, he took her there.

The difference between love and indifference was stark.

"I got tired of it," Serena replied offhandedly.
